Re: The 2024 Burning Man Bar is open
We're about to hit the road. Tuned in to BMIR online, sounds like things are already starting to dry but there's a little more drizzle potential this afternoon. We're looking to arrive at the gate road turnoff around midnight (from the north), and expecting (hopefully not to naively) for things to b...

Re: The 2024 Burning Man Bar is open
*wanders in for a frosty mug, looks around* Nice to see you all still keepin' on. Been years since I've come through these parts. Wanted to say a general thank you for the huge wealth of advice and knowledge (and cheeky snark, of course) you've imparted to me over the last fifteen years. Playa-bound...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Building my first bucket swampy and I've got a couple observations and questions regarding the duracool pads. The orange Homer buckets at my local Ham Despot are different dimensions than specified: 14.5" deep x 10" internal diameter at bottom and 11" internal diameter at top. I cut my first set of ...

Re: Struggling a Bit with Solar/Battery Numbers and Expectations
Thank you both for the help, I appreciate it greatly. AGM sounds good, albeit a little spendier but worth it. I'm having a hell of a time finding anything in 60-70 or 120-140Ah though. I *am* finding 12v 35Ah AGM's for ~$50 a pop.. would it be a poor choice for any reason to parallel four considerab...

Struggling a Bit with Solar/Battery Numbers and Expectations
I'm new to all this stuff and have always struggled to grasp concepts relating to electrical currents, measurements, and how power is stored and discharged. But I've been reading and pushing myself and running some numbers, and I *think* I'm getting close to figuring this stuff out. I'd like to chec...

Re: Bugs and Tickets
I've figured the dedicated burners would just view the bugs as another obstacle, of which their are always plenty out there. I guess the thought I'm more specifically trying to explore is whether or not the weekend warrior tech-types with little personal investment in the community/event will decide...

Bugs and Tickets
Reading about the green bug problem this year I can't help but wonder if some of the current ticket holders will be suddenly turned off by the infestation reports and start selling off their tickets in a hurry. This is the time of year where last minute cancellations usually start to break free a go...

I like the idea of helping extend your hours a little bit, especially later on in the week when there are more bikes in motion and the ones that have been there all week have had more stress placed upon them. I'm going to write you into my little list of adresses to remember and I will absolutely se...

Re: Tutu Tuesday - It's Happening
Hello tutu enthusiasts! I had so much fun making a tutu for Elliot last year that I'd like to gift another one this year! I've got to make a run to the fabric store for tulle for another project and thought I'd get some extra for new tutu for me  and one to give away. Any takers? 8) Hi, cherr...

Huh. No public plazas. Just noticed that on this map. Hmm.. hadn't noticed that. Good point. Does anyone know of the DETAILED 2014 BRC MAP. which would include theme camp placements, porta-potty locaitons, etc. Basically, searching for the digital version of the paper map we'll receive at the gate....

Hi, Elliot. We haven't met but I greatly appreciate what you're doing and would like to help you repair some bikes out in the dust. I'll see you there, tools in hand (and let you decide whether or not that's innuendo).

Today I scored one of these http://www.blastandpaint.com/catalog/images/5gallon%20rubbermaid.bmp My first year out, my brother taught me that you can use these to keep super cold water available all day long. Each day, drop a block of ice in and fill the remaining space with water. Simply top off as...

Picked up a few pairs of these for stupid-cheap on sale at a mall shoe store.
I wonder how they'll do on playa.

Re: cooling your tent or van
Is it possible to set one of these up to run directly off of solar power without getting batteries involved? I'm thinking of using the solar pump for water flow and hooking a salvaged cpu fan up to a small cheap 12v panel like this one . Is it possible to run the fan straight off of a small panel li...

A heads up though: gmail had filed it under "promotions", which I never check, instead of "primary", so I didn't see it at first. So, yeah, that's a thing.

Never tasted so good.. What was yours? IZZY'S! Oh man I've missed those bugers. If i still lived in Tahoe I'd have go...
