Re: temporary cities

OK, I know that all cities are temporary. I meant something else.

temporary cities

OK, so some of the regional burns are large enough that they form a "temporary city". I know Flipside has Pyropolis and Transformus has Mysteria - are there others? What are their names?

playa sundial

I made a playa-calibrated sundial so if you have a compass but no watch, you can find out what time it is. It works the other way, too, if you have a watch but no compass, you can find out what direction you're facing. http://jes5199.com/burningman2010/sundial.png Use a vertical pole, like a pencil,...

hmmm. It's prints OK for me, from Firefox, Safari, and Google Chrome. (Firefox clipped the right side of the map, though)
Consider trying a different browser?

I'm a little hesitant to make a "print this out!" map, while people are still submitting camps to me every day.

photographs of mountains surrounding the playa?

Anyone ever taken a picture of:
Black Rock Point
Old Razorback
Steamboat Mountain
from the playa?
and posted it online?

Token - if there's gonna be somebody selling water in Gerlach at 3am Monday morning, then hell yeah I'll buy it from them.
I just got the impression that nobody's going to be there.

I don't see any reason to put yet another car in the line for the gate at 12am when I could arrive a few hours later - let the people who want in at the very first moment have a slightly shorter line to themselves, and those of us who just want to be there sometime on Monday can have a shorter line ...

I've thought about that, but I don't think I want to be in Gerlach before 10pm, if the gates open at midnight

Buying water in Cedarville or Alturas?

I'd like to buy water as late as possible. ... and I need 110 gallons of it.

Anyone fill up their water barrels in Cedarville or Alturas, CA ?
Have you been able to do it at 9pm? Midnight?
How much did it cost?

thanks

The Man coordinates agree with what I've been told by Burning Man Earth.
They say they'll release the art waypoints Real Soon Now, at http://earth.burningman.com/api/0.1/2010/art/

I've been trying to ask around for portapotties, but I can't seem to figure out who's in charge of placing them

illy dilly, I wrote a computer program to translate the addresses into pips on a map, and to sort the indexes and make links and everything. I've been working on that a couple hours here and there for several months, mostly just playing around - I made up the math for much more complicated addresses...

Unplaced theme camps: where you gonna go?

Those of you in the 130 unplaced theme camps: do you have an idea of where you're going to try to put your camp? I don't mind adding "unofficial" placements to The Map ( http://jes5199.com/burningman2009/ ) -- and maybe if you share your desired locations with the world, it'll be less likely for som...

new map of theme camps

I've made a new map of the placed theme camps.
http://jes5199.com/burningman2009/
(if you're using Internet Explorer, it requires version 8. Sorry about that.)

I'm trying to think of other things to put on the map. What other addresses can we know before the gates open?
