Regarding the handheld laser prohibition; I have worked six perimeters as a Sandman since it was imposed. They issue us goggles now. Have not seen a single handheld laser in three years now.
People took the blinding incident to heart, I guess. Sure love it when 70k folks agree to be nice.

I want to put it under my sleeping structure if it isn't. If I cut the stuff at home how much plastic might come off?

hi! I'm FireTommy and we camp out in the burbs of 3ish and J or so where we pass out boilermakers to anybody who can make it out that far. This was the best Burn of all, even with the 3 o'clock road kicking my ass into a permanent dent. Come visit next year! After nine blocks of that road a boilerma...

Re: Alright, let's hear the best and worst from 2012
OK, worst first. The 3:00 road kicked my ass, permanently disfiguring what was previously a great work of art. You'd think my insurance would cover this... Best parts...People were overall very inclusive, welcoming and sweet. I got to make lots of new friends this year and have a blast with some old...

Re: 2012 Experiences with Police
I saw more cops and searches this year, but this is the incident that troubled me... on Tuesday morning I was at the Temple. It wasn't crowded at all, just a few of us at the center and the rest of us soaking up the tranquility of that huge, airy, beautiful structure. A county guy approached the alt...

Charged particles
A question for the physics folks. I'm told that the reason I can never shake out the dust from anything is that it sticks from an electrostatic attraction. We built a monkey hut with a covering of Aluminet and I fully expect the thing to load up quick with a shit-ton of playa. But, do you think it's...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Hey...what do you think the operating range is for a swamp cooler in terms of relative humidity? Obviously it will work the best on the playa, but would we get much cooling at about 40% or so?

Personally, I would buy a ticket with the agreement that there was no refund, and it was not transferable. It could and would turn into a huge hit if I was unable to go for some reason, but it would be worth it to see all your dusty faces. No gifting, I know, unless you can plan far in advance. But ...

Re: Pop up campers
Mine is the smallest one Coleman made, and I love it. It got permanently playafied, but hitting it with a leafblower seems to have taken care of most of the dust. This year I'll hang a tapestry inside to isolate the sleeping area, which I'll cool with a small swamp cooler

I love seeing the lasers in the dust, and the short wavelength colors look especially cool. Did anybody get hurt by them? And is there a way to protect your vision without wearing a welder's rig? I've had these eyeballs a long time and don't want to damage them...but...wow...Lasers!!
