Re: Decent box wine?
If yooze need some wine, come by THE BELLIGERENT GAP (6 and I). I'll have about 20 gallons + 5 gallons of sangria among lots of other things.

Re: Decent box wine?
Well, its not quite off the shelf, but I've been making some wine from kits that go for about $40 and yield 6 gallons of ~10% wine. So far I've done a shiraz, malbec, zinfandel blush and a sauvignon blanc that turned out well. +++1000 If you have not checked it out here's a great wine making resour...

That sucks. I could have taken a couple extra home if there had been some way to coordinate it.
I don't think I've ever heard so many screetching janky bikes on the playa. I wonder if a lot of these are recycled ones from years past that got sold for cheap/dumped.

Re: Overly Aggressive LEOs This Year?
We had a green tortoise bus get stopped in front of our camp. Supposedly the license plate was "dusty" so they used that as a pretext to pull everyone out of the bus, unload all the luggage and have everyone stand there for hours as the dogs went through their luggage. Saw a few people in handcuffs ...

Re: Any tips for a very, very basic bar
Things we've used in the past: 1) Playatech 2) wire shelves with a piece of plywood cut to fit the top 3) EMT frame with plywood top 4) Folding table I think #2 was the cheapest, lightest and easiest to transport. You can get a 6' tall shelf and make it into two 3' tall bars. Playatech was the sturd...

Re: Tent and shade... HELP
Yeah nothing stays cool without A/C or a swamp cooler. Coolest scenario without any active cooling is being under shade and having the wind blow freely. That's going to get dusty though. Any type of tent will feel warmer due to the lack of airflow, and your body heat warming it up.

Re: Securing EMT structure side tarps to Playa
The more grommets you secure the better. I've had canvas tarps rip out the grommets but that was only with three or so grommets attached to the ground. Bungees also help with keeping the tarp taut. If there's any flapping in the tarp that can lead to tearing. Also, there's a big difference between h...

Homebrewers - Orphan/Endorphin Camp
Well, here we go again! Looking for homebrewers to help us continue our tradition of bringing unique brews to the playa since 2011. You could build an EMT structure to surround the camper but that always seemed like a waste of space to me. I'd rather just sit outside under the shade and let the breeze cool me off.

Re: Freeze Dried Meals
Freeze dried stuff is also pretty expensive for what you get. It's only really needed if you're going to be carrying it on your back, so canned would be cheaper/easier. Even certain types of fresh food will last quite a while out there if you take reasonable care of it. Hard cheese, salami, tortilla...

So replace a 3# sledge and vise-grips with all this electric motor junk, spare battery, chargers, power source ... I fail to see the economy of scale for a small/solo camp. Re: Drill/Driver and an Impact Driver..... ?
So If I decide next year to replace all the rebar for my monkey hut with 3/8 x 18" lag screws and won't have the luxury of a generator or compressor, do I need a impact driver or a drill driver? What size drive and how much torque do I need for say, an 18V driver? Whatever you decide on you might w...

Re: Drill/Driver and an Impact Driver..... ?
Yeah, the hammer drill pounds the bit in and out in the direction you're drilling (useful for making holes in concrete, etc), while the impact driver hammers in the direction it's spinning. (better for driving screws into stuff, or bolting things together) I was trying to put some long screws in our...

It's probably one of those things like making car emissions 50 state compliant, just in case they decide to sell it in California. You get charged the deposit in the store when you buy the stuff so doesn't really matter where it's made.

In the spirit of overkill, this year we found 1/2 inch by 18 inch lags for a very good price. So we took a mix of the 14 inch x 3/8 lags and the bigger new ones. The difference is considerable. Using a 6 foot 2x4 as a lever, it was possible to pop the 3/8 lags out. It was NOT possible to pop the 1/...

I usually just use washers and lag through the metal loops in ratchet straps or carport legs, so there's no way you can possibly get what is secured off without removing the lag first. I guess that's the downside of using chain links and hooking something to them.

Back in 2009 (first burn) I remember a couple of guys standing in the middle of an intersection waving their hands frantically. I think they may have even stepped in front of me to get me to stop. When I stopped they asked me if I had any drugs. I just laughed and rode away.
