While I understand why some camps have dues, that doesn't keep it from making me rage. 2010 was my first year, and we did everything for ourselves. And sure, it would've been cool to stay at one of the many awesome theme camps, be a little closer to the action, etc... After looking at the prices som...

I was confused by all the signs in the porta potties about keeping moop out of them for the first few days. I was camped at 4:30 and H, and I didn't see anything wrong with them the entire week. But suddenly it all made sense when I used the ones outside of Opulent Temple. What the hell? Broken/miss...

In my experience, professional bartenders are pretty good at spotting people who are under 21. And bars in reality have those "We card anyone who looks under BLANK years old" policies. However, a lot of the bartenders at Burning Man aren't professional bartenders, and that's where a lot of the probl...

Though this year will be my first burn, so far I feel like it's been easy to tell who I would enjoy bringing along with me. So how does one go about getting a playa name? Will you get named by someone pretty quickly if you make it known that you don't have one, or is it kind of a spur of the moment thing?

I really love names (I already have 3 that aren't part of my legal name), so I'm especially curious about this xD

If you're not sure what kind of container to use, you can always mix and match. That way you can try all of them out. So next year, if water container *blank* didn't work for you, you can not use that kind, and get more of whatever you liked. I've got a couple of those big aquatainer cubes, some of ...

My friend has his EL wire contraptions powered by 4 AA batteries. He did it because AAs typically have a longer lifespan than Ds do. But, he only has something like 20 feet of EL wire. And some seeing eye has a good point. If you can sent them to blink, then you can actually save a lot of batter pow...

I don't think it's his desire not to see old, naked people that everyone is up in arms about. It's because he made it sound like they shouldn't be allowed to be naked because it would ruin the younger crowd's good time.

Optimal sleep schedule

While this is more of a curiosity than a practical question, what time would veteran burners say is the best time to go to sleep/wake up? From reading other posts it seems like it's a pretty common thing to get to bed in the early hours of the morning, and sleep through the hottest part of the day. ...

You could cover various parts of it with electroluminescent wire or LEDs? If you're just going for visibility and not actual illumination, EL wire could be just the thing you need. You can run them off of typical batteries, so you don't need a generator, and if you put it on the outline it would be ...

I've been camping before. I usually use rebar to stake my tent because I always hammer the tent stakes too hard, and end up breaking them. Stuff inside a shade structure

Alright, 2010 will be my first burn, and I've been looking at a lot of different pictures of shade structures to find which one will work best for the amount of stuff I'm planning to bring, etc. One thing I've noticed in a lot of the pictures, is that tents within structures don't seem to be secured...
