Re: Getting carded on the playa
I'm in my 30's and got carded at only one bar last year. I think it was because the bartender didn't want me and my friend to stick around. I also found a license on the playa last year and once we got back, contacted the guy through facebook to make sure the address was current. I mailed it back to...

Re: Playa Vino
I take a box of red. I throw it in the cooler for a short while so it's cool enough to drink. It's just your regular old cheap vino. I remove the box at home and just take the bag. I do drink out of stemware at home, but I found that the stanless steel water bottles HOLD AN ENTIRE BOTTLE OF WINE. Ye...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Discovered that tickets were not in the "safe place" I thought they were. Spent 7 hours searching other locations in house. Had meltdown. Finally discovered in pile of old bills. Much more stressful than the playa coat shopping I had planned. Yikes! Although . . . aren't you glad you checke...
Brainstorm: What if it was an LED light and had a tether?
Part of the lantern thing is that the heat from the fire makes it float. I personally have a thing against tethering. There was a camp that had a kite tied to their tent a few doors down. You know how many bikers ...

Picked up 2 sleeping bags this weekend. Sounds weird, but we already have two 30 below mummy bags we have been afraid to subject to playa dust. We used comforters the last 3 years pretty successfully. I decided that we could save on bulk by not bringing the comforters this year. Don't know why I nev...

On the playa, the manliest thing to use it for IS an ashtray. :) Hubs bought a tin on the way home. Once there, he needed to empty it out fast so he could use it as an ashtray. So he offered the mints to passerbys. "Are these 'special' mints?" someone asked. He replied, "Well no, but don't blame me...

"Well I remember hearing about this theft prevention system I think if you get too far from your cell phone or something like that, this thing on your key ring starts beeping or vibrating." Another joy of carding is if you don't like somebody in your camp, card them. If they're over 30, they're probably not gonna have their card on them. No card, no booze and they'll probably leave quickly thereafter. If you work in certain industries, you may also want to check your default world work...

In Colorado, there is only 1 liquor license per establishment. As in, only one Costco in the entire state can sell alcohol inside the store. Most have a store beside the Costco where you'd see the same prices but not have to pay for a membership like you do in the regular Costco. We went through Uta...

I had a basket on my handlebars that wasn't supported at the bottom. I also had a light mounted to the bottom of the basket. Needless to say, 14 lbs of ice pushed the light into the fender into my tire the whole way back to camp. This year, I have no fender, supports for the basket, and saddlebags t...

I bought a tube of gatorade-like tablets MADE BY CAMELBACK for their packs at REI. We bought the lemon-lime with caffiene last year and felt actually dehydrated. This year, we bought the same without caffiene and it's much better. Gives the water a little flavor, doesn't stick in the camelpack and d...

Do you tell people where you're going?
Scenario: You blurt out that you're going on vacation. They ask, "where?" What do you say? Do you tell them Burning Man, do you tell them generically camping, family reunion, etc. Do you try to explain what it means?

I swear that chick stopped by our camp last year. It was just really weird. She rode by on her bike and then stopped really quickly - poked her head in our shelter and asked, "Got any marijuana?" It was like 16 3/4 or something weird like that. They had an alternative, but since the other back tire was bad too, everybody told us that we just needed both tires replaced.
