Rites of Passage

I like it. I can relate to it. When I went through puberty, all I got was a coupon for kotex. Burning Man was my real entry into womanhood....

Getting our Rv today 8) Had to tell someone !! I can't wait to remodel it with "playa" in mind hehe. Does anyone have experience with installing floating laminate floors in rvs ? It's an old c class beater but it runs like a champ. I am picking up some mismatched bits and pieces of lamina...

Re: Renting and RV... I rented one year and with the mileage it was $2,500 (and I lost the deposit). I then bought an old RV for $10,000 and this is year three with it - already paid for itself, plus I had it the rest of the year for trips near home. It isn't pretty, no gennie, no AC, but the conven...

I would also highly suggest bringing a spare air filter, just in case. We changed ours just after driving off the playa last year, and it was great not having to worry about it - the old filter was completely clogged. Also don't forget some water or coolant for the rad. There is some altitude to dri...

I RV it and this is my third year - BUT I don't run the air con, I keep the beast closed up tight to try to keep the dust down, I don't shower because the grey tank fills up too fast, and I don't use the toilet because it stinks. Needless to say, most of my time is spent outside under shade. The bes...

Revel in that monster! Be loud and proud. Decorate it with glow in the dark stars and happy face stickers. Or duct tape it to your belly and wear a sarong. I don't see the difficulty, seriously.

Um. A little crazy maybe, but certainly knowledgeable. Every year, I take the DSLR thinking that I will dedicate one day and one night to taking photos. I have done that, but the hauling around of lenses and tripods and all is getting a bit grating, especially when I can enjoy the much more beautifu...

My son is 17 and this is his third burn. You will have an eye-opening, life-changing experience IF you read the first-timer's guide three times and then REMEMBER everything. Water, rest, be prepared always. Underage drinking is illegal and there are undercovers. Don't just focus on the party. Never ...

Thanks for another camera thread - I have taken my DSLR two years now and both times I only managed to take about 100 shots before I couldn't be bothered to lug it around anymore. This year, a small waterproof cheapie is coming. If it is easier to cart around, I might actually use it.

So mental note for 2010: Run after the water trucks! Keep that a mental note, rather than a physical action. Talk about getting ick in your hair. They make waterless or no rinse shampoos. I bring one or two - it is SO refreshing in the middle of the week when the itch makes you crazy. You can find ...
