Considering printing this up and attempting to prepare (and then not doing what I planned when I get there).

Yay!

Art challenge: sew a giant RV cozy cover so it looks nifty and not like every other RV out there. I know it can be done, I've seen it. At least I'm assuming that was an RV under that giant pink rabbit.... Or set up a "front porch" with chairs and such so you can interact with people on the street. ...

Ah, double post, but at least it's 2 quotes... Seeing all the new faces showing up makes me smile big toothy cat smiles. Looks like a quality crop of newbies this year. Aww, that's sweet. It's always rough being the newbie. People who have experience welcome it, but I know that it can be difficult s...

Welcome, Nicole, RJ, and Swampy. Glad to have you hear, and eventually there. Does knowing you are going help you get through your work day as it does me? Cheers to the three of you. Hi (and cheers to you as well). Actually, it does. I get 3 weeks vacation and I am taking 2 of them for the Burning ...

^ Well, with just over 6 months to plan, you can research items on Craigslist, check out Goodwill even, and start making purchases online. A little here, a little there. The game is survival and doing it as a group, but also making sure that you are prepared as well, both mentally and physically... ...

And, when we get there: being out and about, meeting people, doing things, being creative, dancing under the stars and when the sun rises. I bet se...

^ Ah, yes - I've heard about the woes of Play wind (and dust storms). I am going to attempt to out up a tarp contraption for shade (and not the RV shade unit).

Good advice regarding the fridge as well.

Al of this planning, fun times.

Hi Elliot! I'm Nicole by the way. I am going to get the RV serviced beforehand and the tires are also being replaced; they were due for it anyway. And, I even learned how to change the spare if need be (it's under the RV and has go be done using a primitive crank, quite a riot)! I'm skipping on the ...

Take a look here:

for links to quick and easy meal offerings. The issue is many of these items aren't available in stores.
That looks like it has some interesting options.

My mask was great. http://playabound.wordpress.com/2009/06/21/dust-storms/ Lightweight, easy to decorate, and I could breathe and talk fine during the white-outs. I just had it hooked onto my backpack. This looks quite durable. Can you change the mask filter inside? It appears so. * saving link * I...

Sometimes there are perks to having short hair. Mine is long now--at 4 inches. Come summertime, it's usually 2 inches and fun and spikey. A pixie cut - that's it! I assume that my hair will look sort of frizzy and dready, but that's just fine. I may buy some pony tail falls for night time, but my ha...

^ Great advice regarding bringing a cooler (or 2) and gas. I've heard about how crazy filling up in Gerlach can be the RV has a 25 gallon tank and a 10 gallon spare; quite small. Moving on...there are so many sites that offer creative options. Some of the creations on Etsy are spectacular. And, yes, local Goodwill shops are a good place to check out too.

^ Thanks for all of this (again). And, I'll do a search on that (or start a thread). I plan on being thrifty with my power. Re: first timer from NY

Hi everyone. I'm Jess and I'm a virgin burner from New York. I got my ticket yesterday so now I'm really excited. I've been reading up on first timer/survival guides and watching youtube experience videos, but nothing compares to first-hand accounts from veterans of the playa. I'm a lover of almost...

Th3dougler, I can't help but put in my 2 cents here since my first burn was 2009. It sounds like you're the analytical type (me too). Hi, and thanks for the great advice. I have a very old motorhome with no A/C, so no gernerator. I used my RV deep cycle battery of 72 amp/hours. Another great place for costume shopping is etsy.com. Prices vary pretty widely, but you can get some great deals on great, unique items. Oh, I agree :D.
