I can see this idea going either really well or really badly. It could go really well if some experienced burners got together and created something that jived with the whole burning man experience. But honestly, if it was just some trekkies coming in expecting a con-like atmosphere, I think they'd ...

You're a rotten tease, but boy did you make my heart do loop-de-loops. You made me a picture, said it represented what I made you feel, and it had your e-mail address on it. Unfortunately, a lot of my personal items were either stolen or misplaced from our camp, including your beautiful picture. You...

Lost playa bike
Black diamondback mountain bike with a whitetail deer skull duct taped to the handlebars. I believe there was also a glow ring that was attatched to one of the eye sockets of the skull.
I don't care much about the bike, but if you find the skull I'd be much obliged.

*bump* We're still looking for people to help out and camp with us. We operate out of Boston, but we accept people from all over. We will be in California the week before Burning Man, then driving out. This is a great chance to play a central part in a nascent theme camp, meet some new people, and c...

If I *REALLY* wanted to play in TD, I think I could figure out a way ... maybe try picking a fight with one of the TD people. That might get you in there. Friend of mine tried that in 2003. Word of advice: if you pick a fight with the Death Guild, they don't put you in the Thunderdome, they just sl...

Zip Lines
I'd like to build a zip line from a twenty foot tower I'm building out onto open playa.
What do you think would be the best thing to anchor the other side of the line to? Like a big pole or something?

Glee Club Internaional - bike taxi's and trading post
Hey everyone, I just wanted to point out that the glee club will be making bicycle taxi's this year, and we are requesting anyone who would like to join us in our mission to help the bike-less get from point A to point B on the playa, or perhaps to meet a few good burners! Our camp openly invites fi...

I think it probably depends on how you use the chainsaw. A chiansaw six inches from an ear is probably more effective than a boo! I would so love to help you with building a haunted house on the playa. I've volunteered at a children's haunted house, and there's nothing quite like it. The kids were s...

Burning Man is about self-reliance. It's not your fault if people can't take care of themselves and come to depend on your graceous gift. Gifting is voluntary- you don't owe anyone anything out there, and those ingrates should have thanked you copiously for all the times before when you fed them! Yo...

I know well of the truck. I used it last year to bring my bike out. However, it does cost a significant ammount, and they do it by size, so I'd have to figure a way to break the tower down into pieces, or even a way to quickly assemble the tower from its component parts and just bring the materials ...

I'm thinking of something between 10 and 15 feet tall- about two or three people high. Not to be indiscreet, but how much did that scaffolding tower cost you? Price is a concern for me, as is size and weight, since I need to either transport anything I bring from Boston, or pick up my supplies from ...

Seeking auction callers, fur trappers, and random junk!
Fort Bane Trading Post is seeking out anyone with a good set of lungs and an outgoing attitude to help us barter and gift away our collection of weird junk. We're one of the attractions at the Glee Club International Headquarters theme camp, and we'll be holding informal auctions most nights. This w...

Re: .....open, break, and set on fire....
Clever! Would it be possible/safe enough to use four A-frame ladders, put boards between them, and then build a platform based off of those two boards? I don't really have any experience with building anything via that method. Have you thought of two A-frame ladders with a built-up board between the...

Ah-ha! 2x4s. I have a certain ammount of theater tech experience, why didn't I think of going all screwgun on my platform's ass? However, I'm travelling a long distance, so that will probably mean I'll have to transport the materials and build it on-site from scratch, which isn't exactly ideal. Has ...

Re: First Time Burner Looking for Friends
If I were you, I'd volunteer somewhere that will house you as well, such as the Lamplighters. They love having first time burners, and as long as you do your duty (which isn't that hard) they will have food and supplies and all kinds of nice things in their camp, plus lots of new people to meet and ...

Cheap raised platforms?
What would be the cheapest way to make a raised platform strong enough to withstand black-rock-level winds? Last year was my first year, so I know things get pretty hairy out there, but part of my vision for my camp this year is to have a look-out tower/dance platform. I've been looking at scaffoldi...

You're going at this too much from a performance art angle. I'd suggest reading up on zen meditation, and walking meditation, and creating a ritual which is more personally fulfilling. My friends and I are trying to create an art car that looks like a ox-drawn covered wagon. Can anyone suggest any ideas in terms of small motors and drivetrains that could power a thing like that? I'm looking more at an original motorized creation than an "altered car" or anything like that, but I'm...

Honestly I just think it's a generation gap. It doesn't matter though, because whatever you want you can find. Perhaps part of radical self-reliance should be "mind your own business". It's presumptuous to want people to like what you like. Do your own thing and others will do theris and we will liv...

Re: "Down in Front" Fascism Is Ruining My Burn
(Sorry for not being able to make this short): My enjoyment of this year's Bman Festival was utterly marred by a couple incidents which occurred during the 2 climactic Burns--of the Man on Saturday and the Temple on Sunday--winding up the weeklong event. In the first case, after showing up early (o...
