Fundraiser - Unicorn rides and sweet talks!
Hello all! We have an art project containing two carnivalistic bouncy [but stationary] unicorns that you can climb on. You get to sit atop and bounce while you listen to them talk to each other, or to you, or to your girlfriend. They might say something raunchy, something soft, something pretty...yo...

Re: Anyone attend WITHOUT the support of their spouse?
I just got back from my 5th burn without hubby. He's a fabricator too, as am I. He doesn't like me going, but he doesn't want to go...so.... I go. It's all good. I do my best to make him feel non-threatened by telling him who I'm camping with and texting him multiple times a day. Now that I am back,...

Seeking inexpensive projector & advice for art project
Hello! We are putting up a 20' shade structure with a wind chime inside. At the top (at 20') we would like to project some stuff onto an 8' diameter white weather balloon. The balloon will be tied down. The projector and source of video will be located at the top near the balloon, all attached safel...

Hi Trixie, Yes there are limits to the characters in nearly all of the sections, but I don't remember what they are. You get around 3000 chars each for Philosophical and Physical description. I had to edit on the fly too. Once you complete a page, the back button works, so you can flip back through ...

Re: Charged Conversation
Cool. I have access to some equipment, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to pay to use it at the magnitude I need. I can draw the letters with tags that suspend the middles. I'm using a font, but then converting the font into a "shape" anyway. You also gave me something to think about. CARDBOARD WORDS. ...

Re: Art Grant Application
You can't go backwards, and if you start filling it out and you lose internet, it doesn't save anything. I used the sample pdf provided to fill out my questions ahead of time, then filled out the whole grant all at once. I liked it better in years past, where there was a pdf application which could ...

These are all such great comments and insights, thanks everyone! I was thinking 3/16" white acrylic (there's a 7328 Plexiglass type that is 73% opaque) with the words themselves lasered out. This image isn't completely accurate, but it gives some idea. Photoshop even allows you to place the 73% opac...

Re: Charged Conversation
Bbadger, thanks for the well thought-out comment. You and GreyCoyote address the battery issue perfectly, which is a very weak point in this design. GreyCoyote I had considered your design idea -your suggestion of the bridge rectifier for the polarity issue is perfect. Besides just...batteries not l...

Re: Charged Conversation
Thanks Trilobyte, good advice. For those wondering what this project is about: Charged Conversation is an interactive project inspired by the popular refrigerator “Magnet Words”. The words are painted white wood with vinyl stickers to make the words on one side, and LED strip to make the words on th...

Hello! In previous years, the application was able to be downloaded offline so you could share it to be worked on with others. Now it seems like it needs to be completed in one sitting. Is this the case? Will it save if you get kicked offline? I only got through the 1 and part of the 2nd page and it...

Re: Texting Art Piece
The project idea evolves.... 2 large LED panels, with keyboards, placed far enough away from each other that the participants can't see each other, but close enough that spectators can walk between the two and see the whole art piece. The keyboards are used by a participant to converse with the part...

Re: Texting Art Piece
I was told that the amber panels are 300 Watts when all the LEDs are on. I can maybe get RGB panels too, and they will use up much more power. Probably a good average power would be 1/3 of all the LEDs on at a time: 100 Watts. An average deep cycle battery is 85 amp-hours at 12V. So, if the panels a...

Re: Texting Art Piece
Thanks for the replies! For power, I agree, probably 1 or 2 car batteries per panel per day (if this becomes a project we can get real numbers). I ran a project in 2011 on solar. A deep cycle battery could be recharged in a day on the Playa. I think that there are solar groups that provide solar for...

Hello- How about several large 2'x3' LED panel connected to an keyboard mounted on a wooden (for burning) or metal frame. Located off Esplanade at some of the O'clocks (3,4,6,8,9, center camp). I sold my ticket into STEP and have heard nothing
Hello-
I sold a STEP ticket back into STEP about a week ago. I haven't heard anything at all.
Will there be any notification if it does not sell? Some kind of proof that I still own the ticket?
See you on the Playa!
Thanks-
Sophi

Have you all seen this? Projected video onto white balloons! http://www.runemadsen.com/work/ohland-balloon-visuals We used a light pipe-like thing inside of a balloon last year and the amount of light shining through was magnificent. One 3W LED was not enough to make the balloon light up....

Projecting onto the dust - or large screen ideas?
Has anyone done a projection art project that used the dust as a projection screen? I would like to use the night dust as a screen. I don't know if this will work though. OR I could project onto an existing screen - can anyone suggest a camp that has a large screen for potential sharing? Concept: la...
