[Volunteer] Nuclear Dream Burn Perimeter
Hi everyone, Las Vegas Burners is bringing a community project to the playa this year called Nuclear Dream. Its a 25' wooden structure resembling an unexploded nuclear bomb that crashed. Excluding the man and temple, Nuclear Dream will be the 2nd biggest burn on the playa this year and we need your ...

Re: Large EMT camping shade structure - advice needed
I got a question too. My EMT structure is 14 x 20 and in the past couple years, Ive had 2 humongous tarps to cover it to make it a close ended tunnel. It's a pain in the ass so this year I got myself 90% shade cloth for the roof and camo netting for the sides. I set it up at the local regional event...

Cpt Sparkles, I can't see the picture you posted. If I understand your description correctly, I'm inclined to build something similar but with cardboard boxes all around and on top instead. Could you re-share picture or PM to me? I am worried about the wind as well since its a cube. I was thinking o...

Re: Sun path for BRC 2012
Fufa, did you want wind blowing through/into your shade? I have my back wall facing sound and the opening north so that the "prevailing wind" does not blow too much dust into my area. With that though, I get very little breeze and it will heat up and I've got have a swamp cooler.

Re: cooling your tent or van
Take all the guts out, dry it completely, and using your finger, spread a layer of silicone over all the interior joints. I would be very surprised if THAT does'nt fix it. 8) Have done that twice. I can see a really really small wet spot after like 10-15 minutes. At this point, I'm glad its working...

[quote="Bob"]The sides on my conduit hut are set 3 ft out at the base, on a plane with the guy lines. If I were going this year I'd probably add crisscrossing rope in addition to the straight guy lines, and maybe a few battens on the windward side to help it keep it from dishing. Oh, and a sundial a...

It's so beutiful!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh. 8) Thanks Figjam! It means a lot coming from you! Although there's still a couple of kinks. I've silicon the fuck out of it and water seems still to be able to leak a tiny little bit. I'm trying to add a 12v timer and switch that doesn't take up too much juice so i...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Finally got done with my unicooler. A friend of mine helped me make a steel top with a hole(for adding water) and plug so I don't have to constantly open the top since its pretty snug. Not the nicest looking box but it was blowing about 70 degrees in 5 minutes. IMG_1877.JPG IMG_1871.JPG IMG_18...

Re: Sun path for BRC 2012
Call me crazy but I currently use a simple flea-market type 10x20 conduit frame closed on three sides, open more or less to the NE, covered w/ a mess of tarps & dropcloths. I'm sure you could figure out a way to close the end(s) of an A-frame arrangement. Bob, I've got a very similar setup! 10x10 o...

IMG_0148.JPG These are the stakes I'm using this year. From left, 1. Heavy duty tent stakes from Harbor Freight. Use to anchor tent and base food pad for conduit 2. 10" lag screws. Same uses with heavy duty tent stakes 3. Candy Cane-ish rebar. This are awesome and can be made with different sizes/l...

More questions! 1. How do you store your 12v batteries? 2. If its left in the open, will the playa drain and kill it? 3. I found two more 12v deep cycle batteries which are of different capacity(free. yay!). Can I hook up all 3 in parallel or does it all need to be the same type/capacity/etc? 4. Whi...

Re: End a Camping Situation Without Losing Friends
I'm so glad my 3 friends flake on me my first year and I ended going by myself. Since then I can't think to ever camp with others/theme camps. Yeahhh radical self reliance.
By the way, slvrnmph, you need to re-evaluate your friends. Either they think you a fool or you really are a fool.

Re: A Beginner's Guide to El-Wire
I want to add el-wire on my bicycle rims in a circle. Does anyone have a suggestion on what the best kind of adhesive to use?
High Temp hot glue will not work. Tried it.
Zipties will not work cause it will wrap around the tires and will break.
I was thinking goop or an epoxy of sorts?
Thanks!

Send you a PM, Figjam and then realize it would be better here. Im still a little confused with the material used to build the box for the unicooler. I went to home depot and couldn't find it. May have overlooked. Is there a name to it?
Thanks

Had similar thoughts. Please let us know when the pump arrives and how it works!melodiousdirge wrote: Or, if you were trying to get more lift you could put the second pump halfway up. Problem is then you're relying on two pumps to work 100% of the time - if one fails, the whole thing doesn't work.

They don't publish that info. It's ~1gpm at zero head, and my cooler is roughly 42" tall, or 1/3 of the max head for that pump. If it puts out even 1/2gpm at 1/3max head it will be way more than enough. That's of course if I believe that it will actually do 10 feet max head - seems like a lot for a...

Recently, I purchase 24 of those dollar store lights. We had a group campout recently and I had let the lights charge for several days prior. I now have SIX that actually work for more than and hour. So for $24, I paid $4 each for the ones that actually work. I have some I bought 2 years ago and ha...

Re: Sound activated El Wire. Help?
My experience with sound activated drivers are, they don't work very well. If you're in a space with really loud sound (bass) or not loud enough, you won't get the effect you desire. This video was made in a room with probably PC speakers turned up at the right distance and volume. I'd just get a re...
