Re: Most strategic DSLR for night + video
Your mileage will vary depending on what gear you ultimately choose. I have a Nikon D4 and 24-70 that are my go to playa setup. It's survived two burns now with nothing more than blowing off and a vinegar wipe down post playa. No bags / housings, etc and I even took it out to play in a couple of dus...

Re: Durability of Smartphones on the Playa?
I have to agree with those who are of the opinion that phones should go into a hole before you hit gerlach and not be seen again until you leave the playa. that being said, 2014 was my first burn with children, so being reachable by mother of said spawn was pretty important... we went with Garmin Rh...

No need to over prepare. Don't over think it. But.... but... over preparing, over packing, over thinking everything is part of the fun! What? I didn't need all 250 gallons of water and four backup tents just in case the first three blew away in a whiteout? But seriously, no matter how much you do o...

self respect / confidence. It found me Friday afternoon on my first Burn, riding across the esplanade, after nearly two decades of life crushing insecurity and self doubt.

total long shot but you never know, if it happens to be a silver - ish (dull, not bright) dog tag sized charm with a man cut out on a black/red leather strap, I'd love to see it again, it was a gift from a close friend for my first burn, but dumb ass me lost it.

Are you saying to sell them all at the same price or just print the same price on all of them. (Regardless of how much they cost.) If they print them with the lower price on everything there could be MORE scalping. The unsavory sellers would all claim that they bought them for the higher price. The...

Re: Principal Artist vs. Parent on the Playa?
I brought my 2 year old to BM in 2014, simple answer for that young is that it takes a village, we went with a group who were all able and willing to help out so my wife and I could get some non-parent time. You should have a little easier time with a slightly older child. Things we found: It was aw...

Re: Playa-Magic -- Random Acts of Kindness from Strangers......
My camp mates decided that they needed to blow dry their hair, and this resulted in blowing out both of our power inverters. (yes, they did it twice) I happened to mention it over drinks at the theme camp, and someone had a spare inverter they loaned me for the rest of the week. When I went to retur...

Just got back from the SOAK in Oregon , this year they went all out. It was the very close to the Burn ,just not big , only 1500 - 1600 people. Everyone was so nice :) Another difference that occurred to me as I was reading replies and pondering, is sheer size. I see pics from others' Burns and hav...

While this thread seems to have died off a couple of years ago, I am interested deeply in the difference between regionals and BRC, so just curious how your project is going and if the book is out there pm me how to get it?

This may seem sort of similar to other threads, but I can't find anything that quite answers my question, so I will open up a topic and open myself up for the resulting snark...... I have managed to make it for three years so far, (2010, 2011, 2014). I would make every year if I could but silly thin...

No kidding. A pound of bacon and at least one bottle of champagne consumed in mimosa form every morning? I'd totally be dead within a month, if I could last that long.

I brought a similar tent my first burn, the idea was that if anyone got too fed up with close quarters in the RV they would have the option. It wound up being an extra storage area and I think someone passed out in it one night. We set it up under another shade structure, weighted down the corners w...

$2 lace skirt a veteran burner grabbed for me at a thrift store run. She said it would be perfect, I had my doubts, wound up wearing it for my daytime outfit most of my three burns. Guess she knew what she was talking about.

Not familiar with the weather sealing on the Canon line, but after two years with a point and shoot, I finally decided to bring one of my big guns out. I didn't do any extra sealing, just put the 24-70 on before I got on playa, kept it on all week, kept the camera in the case when the dust was up an...

I ambien type. The stallion has gotten better at hiding the computer from me after I've taken my pill, but occasionally he forgets. It's ugly, really really ugly. Heh. People say it all the time, but some people either ignore it or just gloss over it... but keep your expectations in check. And by check, ideally I think it should be zero. If you've got no expectations, then you'll have no risk of disappointment... and you'll waste very little of your time and ener...

As has been said, when it comes to beer or bacon... or bacon beer.... it might be physically and logistically impossible to bring enough. So bring as much as you can and have a backup plan for resupply. Do you have friends with drones who can air drop more?

My go to is Ellie's Brown Ale from Avery brewing, comes in cans and is just plain great. I also bring along a few 22's of some imperial stout just because those are my favs but hard to drink in the middle of a hot afternoon. (great on a cold evening though)
