Thanks, Jella. Actually, upon some more thought, we WILL plan to do vacuum sealed foods if we can come back this summer (job stuff is up in the air; we're not sure yet). For us, the 3-day drive down & back plus all packaged foods on the Playa was just too many days w/o fresh food. So, MORE VEGGIES! ...

Yes. RCS is a direct carcinogen. I've never seen a good analysis of Playa dust particle size and composition. I'm NOT a geologist--just want to know what type of risk there is.

Ryan, can you analyze the Playa dust for respirable crystalline silica? I've been wondering how much of a risk that is--not so much for folks who have just a week of exposure/year, but more so for volunteers who set up or clean up and are out there for weeks...

Our next-door Playa neighbors and friends used this exact Coleman GeoSport--and have for years, and it worked GREAT, even in high winds. They put a lean-to sort of small tent on each side to store stuff, and made some extra nylon flaps to keep the sun out. After seeing how well it worked (with no ex...

We paid nothing but volunteer time to help run events, and got: -- Awesome campmates -- A spontaneous potluck dinner one night with a costume contest & prizes for all -- Access to a communal shower (that we didn't use because we bring our own) -- A huge shade structure with tons-o-chairs (plus cooki...

We must have seen hundreds of Cruise America RVs at BRC, and for the most part, I was impressed at how shiny and new they all looked! Obviously some of them must age out, but when you put your company's name all over something and it's a rolling billboard for you, you want it to look good, and all o...

We found the standard (small) size bottles of hand sanitizer in rubber "carabiners" at the checkout line at Office Depot for a buck--perfect! They'd make great gifts, too. Also, was really glad we all brought an extra box of contact lenses. I usually wear mine for a couple of years, but zipped throu...

Re: Useful disposal bags

This is an old thread, so I may cross-post elsewhere. I don't represent the company that sells these in any way, but found them incredibly useful on the playa, so would like said company to stay in business. http://www.amazon.com/Scensibles-Personal-Disposal-Sanitary-Tampons/dp/B001PYQE78/ref=cm_cr...

Lots of good minds. :D The fleece leggings really were awesome. My potty with WAG bags worked perfectly--I bought a couple of Opsak odorproof bags (big ziplocs, really, meant for keeping bears out of food when you're camping. Important to reinforce the zips with duct tape, because otherwise they can...

Wow, we took every spritz anyone offered, and later in the week when it was hot, I kept my own spray bottle full of cool water and sprayed myself pretty much continuously (and anyone nearby who didn't mind) until it cooled off. Just water. Never occurred to me that someone would spray LSD!

We watched the man burn from the Esplanade because we had to leave right after, and a 20-ish guy pulled up to us on his bike and said something, like, "It's a 911 emergency, do you have anything?" I just rolled my eyes and said no. Wouldn't that be soliciting anyway? We were pretty sure he was a cop...

Our camp had a spontaneous potluck one night, followed by a costume contest where everyone won a prize. It was a blast! We didn't bring any fresh food with us. Next time, I may think ahead about potlucks and see if there is something that would be good on the Playa.

Benadryl! I had it with me--why didn't I think to take it? It was easy to sleep (with earplugs) early in the week, but later on it got louder and louder... Totally forgot: I bought a bunch of furnace filters (with a white fluffy layer and a yellow sticky layer) to block the screens in our wagon--and...

So true about the hands and nails! It was frustrating on the Playa, because if I lotioned up, I just accumulated more dust. Nails were a mess. Next time: rubber gloves for lotioning up at night. :D

If they say 100% chance of rain, hour by hour, for a full day, and it stops raining after 10am, they are FOS.
