well, a) move 2 feet in *any* direction how? At the temple burn I was stuck a few rows back behind a stander- I doubt I arrived too much later than him, and within 10 minutes of my arrival there was another 10+ rows of sitters behind me (and this is long before the burn itself started). At the Man i...

Art in public doesn't equal open source art

Because an art piece is public doesn't make it the public's art, unless the artist has invited that. Where the artist has asked for contributions, then do it. But graffiti, breaking bits off, burning parts early... its like a tone-deaf amplified kazooist at a concert: it just doesn't add anything. B...

arriving 10 minutes earlier gives you what extra privileges?

I hope that you come again to BRC and bring your robes, but since you've been to the burns before you'd know that people in the first rows sit, and unless you bring a blanket / stadium seat you get dusty. As Pershing County is so small I wouldn't necessarily expect to see them in that department. But between Washoe and the ...

attempted art car theft / joyriding

I know several people who lost bikes or cameras. Our neighbors had a nice art car: twice they caught people trying to take it for a joyride. In both cases our neighbors had the key with them, and so they'd watch the louts fumble with buttons and knobs for a while before asking them "what are you doi...

Memorial service Friday, or donations, for Katherine Lampman

My condolences go out to the family and campmates of Kathy Lampman, who died at Burning Man last Saturday. This article mentions there is a memorial service this Friday, and that there is a fund set up to help pay for expenses. As her family is asking for help I will donate to the fund- I hope that ...
