Re: 2017 Playa Conditions

It was so hot..... We broke 100° on three different days during event week. High was 103° It only dropped into the 50's a couple of times. Low for the entire week was 54°. Humidity was as low as 8% on the hot afternoons. Remarkable was the lack of winds. While the still air was sometimes oppressive...

Re: RV a/c fan starts very slow, anybody familiar with the issue?

I rarely make mistakes, but... I installed a hard start cap in my newish trailer this spring and experienced a similar issue. I then bought the manufacturers suggested cap, climbed back up and when I went to replace it, realized I had wired the first one to the start and run posts, not the start and...

An upper level low is moving into the area, resulting in a pretty good chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight and into Wednesday. After that, "A strong area of high pressure sets up over the west Friday, lasting through the weekend. This will bring warming temperatures and dry conditions to t...

Re: 2017 Playa Conditions

96 degrees in Gerlach. this afternoon- a little warmer than average. Extended forecast calls for low 90's next weekend. http://www.gerlachweather.com/wxforecast.php Humidity is normal @ 10-15% in the afternoons. While dry conditions make it feel a tad cooler, they keeps the fire danger high. We had ...

If you can, wait until on playa to wrap it. Bike carriers and the beds of trucks tend to rip the stuff up.

Hello bar. Long time no see! My FB account was suspended yesterday because they think I'm using a fake name. As a result, I'm getting quite a bit done! Cathy and I are heading up to the playa tonight for our annual Meteor Shower camp out. Meteors or not, it's always a good trip cuz we get to see (fr...

Re: What is your floor?

I got a 10x16 tent for "free" ~10 years ago. Only used once! It turned out it had been used in the rain, and stored wet for a year. I ended up cutting out the bottom (a tarpish material) and have used it ever since as a floor. I know of camps that use 10x20 tarps for floors. Most don't eve...

Re: Carrying ID: copy or original?

So now that I'm home and have the internets to give me legal advice, my opinion stands. In "most states" It's up to you to require "reasonably realistic" proof of age. If you don't trust a photocopy, then don't trust it. I'm glad I'm not a bar camp. If ticketed unfairly, it would...

Re: Carrying ID: copy or original?

It is completely up to the proprietor as to what they choose is acceptable, but it sure ain't "legally" anything. I wouldn't say I'm worried about it, but I was assuming the reason camps card people is because they're legally liable if they don't. Otherwise, why bother? If they're under 2...

Re: 2x3s strong enough to build shade structures?

I did a 12x24 out of 2x4 with mesh top two years in a row. It was predrilled and I used carriage bolts. With rachets and rebar, it held up fine. The big pita was that it became a puzzle-- piece A, hole #1 to piece B, hole #3, etc. For an 8x8 or 10x10 (8 pcs lumber), 2x4, deck screws and guylines wou...

Re: Transporting an art piece to the playa -- can we just use our truck?

Once you've finished your on-playa registration, you will be issued a driving pass/sticker for your vehicle if one is needed. It will be specific to that particular day. LEO can be pretty thick pre event and WILL ticket you for driving without a pass. It's easy to go over the 5mph limit. Be careful.
