Re: law enforcement 2013

Oh, dammit! This is starting to sound good... I think we may have to set this up next year. I have a couple of camouflage chill vests that look very like body armor, a couple of SWAT black riot helmets and such. We could put together a greeter station sure to cause flashbacks! Now I'm tempted to wea...

Re: Minimum Greet Lane?

Maybe there could just be a large lane with a sign "Fast Track, No Greeters." They could have a booth where they just give you your docs and let you through. Then again, I people may suspect it as some sort of funny art thing and go there thinking they'll get greeted regardless. I like it! We could...

Re: Minimum Greet Lane?

Very useful information, thank you! I always thought the Greeter station was non-optional. Knowing that the unoccupied lanes on the left are to avoid it entirely will make next year better already.

Minimum Greet Lane?

Have the folks who run Greeters ever considered having a veterans line or two? That is, one or more lanes with signs saying something like "Multi-year returnees Only" where the printed information and standard rules speech can be given in a minimum time? I love my time on the playa, but especially w...

Darn it! I was thinking of bringing a bullhorn ... now you went and spoiled the feeling for me. Actually, according to one of our camp members, a bullhorn is properly called "A Yelling Thing". Anyhow, I want one that will record and play amplified .wav files. Want to do rooster crows at dawn, crick...

Think Globally, Camp Locally

After reading a pile of e-playa mails about this year's experience, I have noticed an interesting trend. I keep reading things along the lines of "the art/burn/org sucked, but I didn't care because I was camping with the greatest folks on the planet". Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but it'...

After reading through this fascinating discourse on body position (I myself prefer to watch the Burn in a semi-fetal position in a bunker 2 miles away), a few people have mentioned the bikes that are scattered thickly throughout the crowd. I always looked on them as at most an annoyance until the ma...

I was walking by with fiends one night, dressed in flaming doublet and wings, when the fire juggler you had out front hauled me in for a drink. Great atmosphere, appropriate infrastructure, loved the coffin tables and the IV wine bags! You guys did a great job, and the idea of having fire artists ou...

CupCake Love!!!

I assume everyone saw those wonderful cupcakes gliding across the playa in their tin cups? They definitely get my vote for the most whimsically wonderful moving art I saw this year! Anyone know who those folks are?

Thank you, Burning Man Staff & Volunteers!!!! I got the opportunity to DJ the Exodus for BMIR on Sunday this year, which meant I had to monitor the staff radio channel for two hours ( to pass along gate info). What I heard was two solid hours of problems being detected, analyzed, and solved with spe...

I had a weird experience on the way up this year. All the way from Fernly, I kept worrying I would wake up, because I have had so many dreams this year where I was on that road, bubbling with anticipation. Fortunately, for once it wasn't a dream!
