Re: Everything lost is gone forever

Agreed! Hey Sham, did you bump your noggin? You ok boo? Who are you? Where am I? Is this real life? So the vaccine is not going as smoothly as they had hoped. Buckle up for 2021.  People will still be coming out. I almost feel like a non sanctioned bm burn will be safer than a bm...

With the prospect of Burning Man 2021 looking a bit brighter, I now say that everything is no longer lost forever.

Sounds like y'all had a ton of fun. I'd be leery of going out there this year just because people can't manage basic precautions to not be plague rats, but I'm glad people got out and spent some time on public land!

"60% of the work we do is dedicated to the year-round cultural programs." What does "60% of the work" mean? 60% of the org's expenditures?
It means they got way overambitious trying to bankroll turning a party in the desert into a cultural movement.

Re: In the event of cancellation...

I'm not worried about ticket sales, I'm worried about a bunch of burnouts too enamored of fucking off in the desert for a week dragging sickness into isolated communities. If you think your precious burn is worth the lives of people living in isolated areas with very limited access to medical attent...

So here we are. Tickets will most likely be much easier to get this year. How bad do you want to attend? Are you willing to take a chance? An opportunity of a lifetime is before you. It's a fork in the road that requires a clear and level head. Do you have a strong constitution? Fuck that and fuck ...

I still think a camera policy of 'if we see you taking pictures, we're confiscating and shredding it. If it's your phone, tough fucking luck' would do a ton to improve the thing.

I do think about that unpaid work. A lot.

That's why plug and plays getting catered to in the era of sold out events makes me so furious.

If you spend the time to read all the supporting documents on the BLM site, it’s very easy to correlate the mitigation’s to the original problems various agencies are trying to solve. Trash - that one is easy. Jersey Barriers - DHS - no way to prevent a mass casualty vehicular event - I.e. terroris...

Now for some humor... how do we punish bad burner behavior? Well the BRCCP would have them doing hard labor in the FIgjam Cooler and Lag Screw Anchor Factory to make them for Burners Without Borders, overhauling playafied bikes, sorting moop, working in the lost and found call center, cleaning up t...

There have been so many instances where Stingray has been used "improperly". It's surprising what technology is actually available to local law enforcement. Every little 3-man sherriff's office in the US has milsurp these days, bought with global war on terror funding. It's not surprising. remember...

While I recognize that the Big Burn was founded by people from SF, and there are many fine people residing in said city, I'm suggesting that our current location isn't sustainable from either end. That's part of the problem.

With the ticketing the way it is, people can't rely on ever coming back, so more and more that thing in the desert is a once-and-done bucket list trip.

People who aren't coming back aren't going to feel any social pressure not to be shitweasels.

Situation Normal: All Fucked Up.

Same as every year for the last few, the main sale was a shit show, those who knew to abuse the system got in while those who followed the instructions generally got hosed, and the Org will continue to be baffled how this happens every year.

There will absolutely be a year where ticketing isn't a hot mess.

Just gotta wait until the BLM cuts the permit numbers in half, and they have a couple years where all that shows up are the plug and play vacationers with nothing to gawp at but honorarim projects. :coffee:

Satirical, yes. But it is not a joke. There has been a path each year to slide behind the spaghetti and get tickets during the meltdown.
