Re: Anyone hit the playa while on chemo?

You guys are silly. But I am kinda shocked that there are so few of us in this special club of BUIC, Burners Under the Influence of Chemo. With your bad habits and low standards and all.. I must be a certain kind of special.

Re: Anyone hit the playa while on chemo?

Aww, thanks GreyCoyote. I am only a student of the great Maya Angelou who said, “I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one."

(Although my non-burner friends may not agree, as my incessant talking about TTITD I think can be quite painful. )

Anyone hit the playa while on chemo?

Hey all, I searched and didn't find much from firsthand burners going to the playa while being treated with chemotherapy. I will be on my third cycle of four during TTITD. So far it's been manageable, no port, so no opening to keep clean. I'm in good health otherwise and have been preparing for my 5...

Like Doc said, stop worrying. I have the same problem in the default world, once I start it's off to the potty every 30 minutes. But somehow the magical universe that is the playa, and dry dry desert, you pee way less. It's shocking! You'll be pleasantly surprised I bet.

Re: How to attach a battery pack to clothes without a pocket

I'll be watching this thread for ideas as well, as I have been sewing a pocket or in the case of scarves, putting a sock around it and then rubber banding it to the end, then I have to add a beanie baby to the other end as a counter balance. I found some LED strings that have tiny button battery pac...

Re: The Gate Access Radio broadcast did more harm than good.

Our strategy was to pack on Sunday and listen to the radio for an opportune time to leave. Our plan failed due to inaccurate and not updated radio information. I completely agree. We were planning on following BMIR and GAR's suggestions on when to leave, but then realized they were useless. GAR sim...

OMG Ratty, I am so in awe of how you could just whip up that amazing beany baby scarf for a stranger. You are a rock star! I would add lights to it, but that's my addiction. (You should have seen a friend's face when I showed her my bin of led string lights & el wires organized by color and type...

Re: One Item for BM a Day

Organized my LED light strings and was a little horrified to find just how *many* I had accumulated. Yowza. My excuse is that they are so cheaply made that i need backups. To offset my carbon footprint I did hit a thrift store and got some cool duds. That counts, right?

Re: One Item for BM a Day

Got a proper thermos: well-insulated, wide mouth, grip, narrow enough for bike cup holder. The plan is for the ice to stay in there and carry a sealed container for refills. Much better than the crappy clear, barely insulated novelty cups I've used the past 3 years. At least that's the plan. Also go...

My aluminet arrived in the mail. Woohoo! I've wanted it for soooo long and finally got it. Great deal too, $190 for 70% 20x25. It's huge! I hung it up as curtains and love the cool room with a perfect view of outside. Why don't people make aluminet curtains? I looked and nada. Possible idea for you ...

It takes my body a few days to acclimate to the weather. I get the WORST chapped lips the first 3 days, then POOF they're fine. Yeah, ditto about the protein. I found that dipping club crackers into a dip of tuna, olive oil mayo, and sweet pickle relish was a go-to daily. I also made a carb-free cheesecake/pudding one year, cream cheese & lemon sugarfree jello. It really hit the spot even though I wasn't dieting. It's ta...

For those who still want to wear shorts, Costco has these cute skorts for $10. They look like a skirt but have shorts underneath for inner thigh protection. I love the pair I got and am going back for other colors.

Yes, it seems clear that the criteria for an Amber alert was not met. No abduction and no description of suspect was verified. This is annoying and undermines the system. Something like a Code Adam protocol may have been better. People can exit, but only after basic inspection (make sure a 15 yo gir...

Yes! On Saturday before opening I heard on BMIR that someone had lost their cat and they were asking people to keep an eye out. I agree with most of these posts, especially about bringing spare shoes because YOU NEVER KNOW what's going to float your boat. I brought solid shoes to keep my feet playa-free my first year, but ended up wearing these really basic flip flops the whole time. Oh and these fleece booties too. NIght ti...

YES--I have been having the same issue! After gaining about 10lbs (apparently the straw that broke the camel's back) I've noticed what is apparently affectionately called chub rub. It only happens in the summer and only when I wear skirts or go bare. I've narrowed sweat down as the main culprit. Bab...

Yes, sorry. The Mirena is the IUD du jour. It has the hormones and works wonderfully to all but stop the flow. Oh, and stop the flow of inconvenient microhumans too. Of all options, it's fool-proof and very few side effects. It's taken a long time to shake the stigma of the dalkon shield. A real mes...
