Re: Shaving at Burning Man
straight blade shaving is awesome. but there is a learning curve. Learning to strop it well takes some practice, honing even more. If you dont want to get into it full bore, any barber supply has straight blade holders and the blades are dirt cheap. example (not advocating this company just a quick ...

Re: Freezing water bottles
If you want a more permanent/re-usable solution look for "moosebag" silicon bags on amazon or the like. They have an open roll seal top so its easy to get a couple of bags of ice or even blocks into em. no "cooler soup" and fresh ice cold drinking water at the end of a tube. A little pricey, but min...

11 year burner T1 here. Humalog injection 6x+/day, Lantus 1x/day, Afreeza PRN as needed. Any cooler with standard ice (not dry ice) will not freeze your insulin. Just keep it up and not in the muck of cooler water, bacterial contamination is what you don't want with the inject-ables. Like token said...

Re: Water Storage/ Shower Situation
I use a mortar mixing tub from home depot and a (fresh, unused for chemicals) garden sprayer. Lay down a towel just big enough to cover the bottom of the tub, mist enough to get wet, lather up (something not too harsh like Dr. Bronners is good), mist to rinse all the crap, dust, and sunscreen off yo...

Hey Full, Do whatever you are used to, no sense in adding another unfamiliar process. I use my phone for my dexcom IRL and on playa. (airplane mode because... who needs bullshit when I'm out having a great experience) I'm a shooter, but from talking w other pumpers you just want to make sure to have...

Hey fancy, T1 here and going for my 9th year. Definitely do-able. that said, the key is to watch yourself. the dexcom really helps. get a sports patch for (link above) it the adhesive it comes with isn't enough IMHO. I'm totally used to mine and don't find it getting in the way of much. its more of ...

Re: Any diabetic burners out there?
Yup, dexcom rocks. Nothing like CGM when shit is out of your normal regimen. But you have to have charging for your phone/monitor. personally good because I have my Aliner with generator and house batteries. Reach out. no one will deny you charge when you tell em why on the sensor change front: you ...

My go-to for journaling is a Pigma micron drafting pen. They are super fine tip permanent ink. come in a huge array of colors and tip sizes. obviously great for drawing too. for general purpose writing I like the sepia tone .02 tip.

You will totally get the most bang for your buck if you can shade your shell. The idea is to get some airflow between your shade and the surface of your habitat so the sun isn't beating on the surface closest to you. ideally 12"ish between them. Google monkey hut. Or rig a shade tarp (cheap @ harbor...

Sorry to be late to the discussion but as you are in the bay area contact TechShop to be able to learn and do it yourself. Otherwise google CNC routing services or same terms on craigslist. I could give a dozen shops, including my own, if you were in the San Diego area. But I guarantee there are sim...

Re: Curated art cars, what are they looking for?
I agree with all this except for one thing; A small MV (Golf cart) is always going to be judged on whether it's a personal conveyance. I've seen all manner of small ones, many beautifully outfitted and yet I believe there is a built in bias that says, " you only did it so you could drive around the...

Re: Bicycle question, three-wheelers??
The motor was from an electric mobility scooter that I got off craigslist for I think around $100 because the seat was torn up. Two 24v High torque / low RPM motors, and two serviceable batteries + controllers. Total bargain. The axle is easy. Take off the hub from the drive wheel, there is a set sc...

yup the 72" x 96" @ $14.95. Don't know about longevity, but it worked like a charm last year. Like I said even through the big blow pre-event last year. Pulled it out and it seems none the worse for wear (I did hose it off before storing)

Re: Hardier Hexayurt
forget the tape anchors and halos. truck cargo net. throw it over the top and ratchet strap down from the pre-installed reinforced grommets to lags impact driven into the playa. easy to adjust tension, and the net spreads the point load more evenly across the panels. 4 x18" lags and the net held my ...

not in a decent wind. 1" thick minimum for structural integrity like BvB said for the smaller models 1.5" is even better for full size yurts. I know the panels are more expensive, but what is the cost savings when it crumples on day 2?

Cool, Thanks Tiahaar.
That's easily done. good info though, Think I have all that covered. DMV it is.
Do you find you have to line up with all the other MV's or is it a separate station?

Flame effects for mutant bicycle (approval/licensing)
Hola Eplaya, Not sure if this is the best spot for this (mods feel free to move if appropriate) In the middle of my build of my mutant bike. Adult "Big Wheel" Rear and drive train from a Schwinn 26" tricycle, front wheel custom built at 66". Should be a fun pedal around the playa. Also been reading ...

Re: How do wind-loaded yurts typically fail?
Only anecdotal, but... I used a modified 6' stretch design last year that worked well. Designed to get a higher door 5' 6" in this case and much more standing area inside. Made a world of difference in user friendliness. I have given up on both tape anchors and halo. I use a truck bed cargo net over...

too OLD???
HA
I'm middle aged ("Dad bod" paunch, getting hair in the ears and grey in the beard)
I've had a couple of lonely moments out on the playa, but they were entirely to do with my own mental state and insecurities.
NOTHING to do with being accepted by others. NOTHING
