Re: Poofer pilot light igniter question
Ten feet from the ground is the minimum height requirement for motorized vehicles on the Playa. There really is not a standard for Human powered vehicles as they do not require a DMV license. BUT, you are doing the right thing as the BLM push this year is safety. I feel it is only a matter of time b...

Re: Poofer pilot light igniter question
I would leave the pilot on all of the time. (when you are with the vehicle) Then there is no delay time to firing your poofer.

Re: Poofer pilot light igniter question
Is your copper tubing exposed to the open air or have your surrounded it with steel wool, or preferably, stainless steel wool? Surrounding it with SSW will shield it from the wind and at the same time allow more O2 around your flame creating a cleaner burn.

Re: 4:30 Neighborhood Camps
Again this year Black Rock Power CO-OP has asked to be placed between A and B streets and 4:00 and 4:30. Brain Freeze / Got Stickers Camp will anchor the Village on the 4:30 end and And Then There's Only Love (Read the Orgy Dome) will anchor the other end. Between those two camps will be at least 9 ...

That would make a really nice addition to a Theme Camp. Especially if you can allow others to operate it. Interactive fire art is always a crowd pleaser.

Re: SIDESHOW! Carnival of Smoke and Mirrors
Hello Lordtrigon, Anything that has fire, whether in a Theme Camp or on the Playa must be registered through the Art Dept. Inspection of all fire art is an Event stipulation required by the BLM. This is done through the Art Dept. The inspections are done by FAST. (Fire Art Safety Team) You will see ...

The rest of you who want stickers will just have to stop by Brain Freeze / Got Stickers Camp this year, located within Black Rock Power CO-OP. Should be in the 4:30 neighborhood......

Re: Experiences with "professional" photographer on the play
Matt is indeed a real photographer and he does give away hundreds, if not thousands of his post cards. In past years he has camped with the Pyronauts and now he camps with Brain Freeze / Got Stickers Camp within Black Rock Power COOP. He assists my team with maintaining the power grid on our block. ...

Re: "Directed Group Sale" and theme camp applicants
Our Village, Black Rock Power COOP received 25 fewer than last year and 2015 is already promising to have a larger population than last year.
It will all work out. It always does.

Maybe the tone is a little sour because Dan did the bulk of the cleanup when over 95% of those who volunteered to assist failed to show up. Some people make things happen and others simply talk about.

Scuba tanks are rated for much higher pressures than propane can achieve. As long as the tanks are not modified, IE: welded on or new openings drilled, the tanks will make fine accumulators.

Re: The Alien Siege Machine
Interesting story about the Rochester siren. The Cassorla Brothers, who own Roller Coaster Fireworks in Battle Mountain have been trying to purchase that siren for almost a decade. Their childhood home is blocks away. In 1997 or 98, Steve Cassorla was doing the Pyro for the Man. There was an "issue"...

Actually it won't be my Chrysler Siren. I don't have the band width to transport that, my Village gear and four generators and enough distro for a City Block at BRC. Sooooooooo, I have aquired the emergency warning siren that was from the Port of Oakland. They converted to electronic horn type siren...

If you show up for the first four days you will miss the epic battle that will be waged on Friday evening. The Alien Siege Machine vs. the forces of Black Rock City.
This is an Event that is not to be missed.......
No matter the outcome, the battle will be glorious!

Re: Directed Ticket Sales (does each invite get 2 tickets?)
Not everyone in my Village is purchasing two tickets, though they have the option. In fact our Village, which has over 350 people, left at least 13% of the possible ticket sales on the table. And that is assuming that everyone purchases the two tickets allotted. The two reasons stated in the previou...

Re: Directed Ticket Sales (does each invite get 2 tickets?)
Last year someone within my camp purchased two tickets on the directed ticket program and he ended up selling the extra ticket (for face value) to a person who was NOT part of our camp crew. The person that did that will not get an invite to stay in our camp or Village this year. The Directed Ticket...

One of our camp mates lent out his Ipod to a neighboring camp on A street between 4:00 and 4:30. When they returned it to him they gave him an Ipod that was not his. They eventually brought his back but did not take back the first one they gave him. He would like to return the unit that does not bel...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
One of the primary reasons for sending three phase to each panel is so we can balance the load. Each cable is marked and if the load exceeds 15-20% out of balance, it is a very simple matter to find which line is pulling more currect and switch them. We balanced the loads every afternoon during peak...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
All of our runs are 5 wire three phase to the sub panels. While it would save some weight to use a smaller ground, we use 00 on all of the wires except from the genny to the main panel. I believe those are 0000. Very short run, though. We do have the ability to connect the various sections of the Vi...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
We cross the ground to the neutral on the 3 phase runs. We do this at each main panel for each of the three generators. We do NOT cross link the grounds or neutrals among the generators. The only problem we have had is dust in the GFI's. We have begun removing them from the C boxes, but we only use ...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
The 50A RVs that we plugged into a 30A circuit would not run a second AC unit. Some of them had random other items that would not function, IE: various interior edison recepticles etc. The microwaves still worked. One had a fake fireplace that was also a heater, it would not function on 30A.

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
We have only three camp members with 50A RVs. Two of the three are required to run the 50 to 30 A adapters and we built a 50A subpanel to handle the one that we do power up. He has special needs so we made allowances. We have even modified a few construction boxes with the 30A RV gear. I generally d...

I was curious if anyone interested in power visited "Black Rock Power CO-OP" this year. This Village was located between A and B streets and from 4:00 to 4:30. We had 8 camps within the Village. The entire block was on a power grid. We fed over 50 RV's, a lot of interactive Theme Camps, two large ki...

You will find your answer at this address. Also, getting this close to the Event, I check that address for emails at least 4-5 times a day, every day.
