Re: Driving from The Pacific Northwest to BRC? Camp for Free

I'll be rolling through again this year both to and from the burn. I found you in 2010, and have been stopping since.

My standard practice for every year:

The turn to Eagle's Nest is coming up
The turn to Eagle's Nest is coming up
zoom!
Oh wait, that was the turn!

Re: BLM at BRC 2011

I had good interactions as well. I gave several of them pre-stamped postcards to mail home to their families from BRC. They were genuinely excited to receive them. In talking to them, I found that a lot were higher-up office types. They were pulled out to BRC because of a lack of man power. One BLM ...

Re: post what you didn't like about 2011 here

Alturas, CA: On Sunday afternoon, I pulled into the local commercial fueling station. These are unattended stations that you need a commercial fuel account to use. This is primarily where semi's and work trucks fuel. I was in a white cargo van, wearing non-burner clothes. Basically looked like I was...

...and if you really want to geek out, check out the APRS logs:

zoom in on BRC, and you will see that three hams running APRS are already on site.

Re: HAM Radio

Oh, and I should add that the local UHF repeater also has 911 Phone Patch, in case you have an emergency off-playa and have no cell service. http://cq-blackrock.org/phonepatch.php Once again, if you use it, consider throwing them a few dollars. Their org provides a great service to the black rock de...

Re: HAM Radio

Sgt Pepper, There is a daily net held on 2M every day at noon on the national calling frequency: 146.52. There is also some chatter on there throughout the day. There should be a ham meet & greet one day. Tune into the net to find out what day/time it will be set up. If you want to play a little bit...

Re: Need help! Playa staples from Iron Monkeys sufficient?

I bought playa staples to use with my hexayurt last year. They worked great! I pounded them in flush with the playa surface, so there was nothing to trip over, then used red (high vis) ratchet straps to the tie down points of the hexayurt. It was basically re-use of the ratchet straps that held it t...

Re: A good deal on some EL wire...2 days left

It does look like a good deal, but you might want to include a generic link to comply with forum rules. From the site selling the product: Get 3 Friends To Buy This Deal And Get It For Free You’ll get your deal for free after three of your friends purchase the same deal (provided they bought it afte...

If you do go with MURS, be aware that channel 5 (154.600) is used for EMS. Be sure you stay off of that frequency.

Last year I bought a couple dozen pairs of sunglasses. I would ride out towards the man, look for people shielding their eyes and give them a pair. It felt good giving something that was actually needed.
