Re: Newbie from Washington State thinking of 2020 as my first time going
Welcome to the group. You didn't mention the age or type of your motorhome. Be aware that the playa dust gets into everything. (Think sheetrock dust on a massive scale). If you take your motorhome, be prepared for some serious cleaning when you return home. I have a fairly new travel trailer. For my...

Thank You!
This is way overdue, but I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for their opinions, insights, and snark. While I have attended previous burns with a pop-up trailer, 2018 was the first burn I attended with a tent. I was originally seduced by the low price of the big-box store nylon pop-up dome tent...

Around 7:30 and "G" you will find RV spaces with full hook ups: Water, 30 amp power, and black/gray water dump. These spaces aren't well publicized, so this is between you and me to keep it on the down low.

Re: Bittersweet of approved but not doable- The Flint Fix-It Fort
Adamson, I applaud your ambition to build a camp as a burgin. Is it a good idea? I don't think so. The playa is a harsh and unforgiving environment. IMO it's a good idea to spend your first year wandering and seeing everything there is to see, getting a feel for the playa, then develop your camp for...

Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list
Took my playa bike to the neighborhood bike shop to get new tires and chain. When the bike mechanic saw me wheeling my bike up to the counter, he commented that this is the first playa bike he has seen without fur!

Re: Electrolytes for Virgins
At my previous burns, I have gone with the following ratio of liquids (minimum, not including coffee and beer) for daily consumption. 3 liters of water 32 oz of Gatorade 11.5 oz of V-8 At the risk of being OCD (there is no D in OC), I label the containers of liquids for each day to make sure that I'...

Re: Burning 2019-2028 Plan - Your input requested (long)
At some point the population needs to be capped, whether it is 80,000 people, 100,000 people, or somewhere in-between. If the infrastructure and access to the burn aren't maxed out now at 80k people, they might be at 100k. The Burner Express and BXair are "band aids" at best. Maybe it's time for Bur...

Back to the original topic, do any of you have recommendations for 12 volt tent fans? Found one Coleman 12 volt fan on the Cabelas website and a few on Amazon.
Thanks,

Re: Simple shower and evap pond
For our shower setup, we have a large concrete mixing tub (black heavy duty polyethylene) and a wood floor grid so you won't be standing in a puddle. A rigid plastic kiddie swimming pool or a galvanized steel tub could work as an alternative to the mixing tub. If you choose to go with PVC pipe for t...

Welcome! As a fellow Seattleite I have one piece of advice: Bring plenty of sunscreen. When I participated in the World Naked Bike Ride and Pub Crawl, I had the whitest ass on the playa.

Captain,
Sorry to hear about Kelly's passing. I hope the memories of your good times with Kelly will soften the pain of your loss. We need more burners like her.

Re: To Shade or Not to Shade?
Hi Jackass,
This shade structure would have a gable profile with a 3:12 pitch, so the peak height would be around 8'-2" or 20" of clearance over the tent ridge. I could probably go with 7'-0" on the verticals and get 24" of vertical clearance above the tent ridge.

Re: To Shade or Not to Shade?
I'm designing a 12' x 18' shade structure with EMT and prefab EMT connectors. If I keep the spans short (6'-0" or less) and the verticals at 6'-8", would the 3/4" diameter EMT be sufficient? I would be using ratchet straps diagonally on 3 sides. Each leg (8 total) would have a base plate and be conn...

To Shade or Not to Shade?
Hi Friends, I will be camping in a 10' x 10' Kodiak flex-bow tent, which I understand will become an Easy-Bake Oven by 8:30 am. For all of you canvas tent folks out there, is it worth the time and effort to have a shade structure over the tent? The 10' x 10' tent footprint is too big for fitting und...

400 sq. ft. of shade divided by 16 people would equal 25 sq. ft. per person. depending upon the seating arrangement (chairs, benches) you should have enough shade.

Outgoing Mail from BRC?
Hi Friends, At the last burn I attended (2013), I was gifting stamped, hand drawn, hand colored postcards. At the time, the BRC post office was collecting and sending outgoing mail. Will the BRC post office be operating this year and sending outgoing mail? If not, I will figure out something else fo...

Cleaning Playa Gear
Hi Friends, Have been digging out all of my playa gear from the garage and am starting to get organized for this year's burn. it would be helpful to post a picture or the brand/tent model you are considering. After doing research on Eplaya and reading tent reviews on Amazon, I purchased a Kodiak 10' x 10' flex-bow canvas tent. There are other brands of canvas tents out there. Amazon is a great place to find out what is ava...

BaudEByter, Why would you bring an expensive E bike to Burning Man? Consider these facts and opinions. 1. They playa dust is very corrosive and your bike won't be the same after the burn. 2. The land area for Burning Man is approx. 7 square miles, easily covered by a regular bike. The exercise will ...
