Re: A lone Burner from Boston’s first time experience

Good write up!
I always love reading about how other people's adventures unfolded, I can get lost in these stories for days. Takes me right back to the playa and revisits many sights, sounds and memories, sends me daydreaming anew...

Re: 55 gallon drums and water storage

Short and simple win the race in BRC, a place where if it can go wrong it probably will. You don't want to spend the week presiding over an overly-complex and issue-riddled water system. Water is just the tip of the iceberg and rather easy to solve, wait until you get to the shade, shelter, transpor...

Re: 55 gallon drums and water storage

I wouldn't want to drink water from a barrel that had antifreeze in it no matter how well rinsed it is, you could end up with a long-term glitch in your matrix. They make perfect grey water barrels though, and you should be able to find used food grade barrels for $20-30 locally.

Re: 55 gallon drums and water storage

You're overthinking this a little bit, paint or tape a large X on the grey water barrels and obviously use two separate pumps and line systems for fresh and grey waters. If someone still drinks from or showers with barrels X, that's just going to have to fall in the category of idiotic and it'll be ...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

Lines to get in are a very accurate measure of popularity. Actually the lines to get in are more an accurate measure of the impedance of getting on and off of the 747. Closed for VIP events, but with a line of saps waiting to get in even though the won't be allowed to doesn't sound so cool to me......

Did m/any of said efforts become a post-event land, legal, and logistic boondogle of the jet's proportion? One other I can recall, the name's not coming to me right now but anyways, it didn't end well... I'm waiting patiently for some 747 updates, hoping they've got something going besides digging ...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

Without some serious modifications to the plane they will not be able to go any further uphill, it only gets softer ahead and impossible to where they plan on parking it. Even if they did get it into place, it could be a long while (years) before they can bring it out of storage between weather, gro...

Re: Biggest MOOP in the history of Burning Man

there's no road to get where they're going and that thing is going to crush whatever it crosses. Need a permit to move it now? That's going to be interesting... I stand by my previous comments... So much for all of that "ground prep", that was fake news. https://www.gannett-cdn.com/presto/2018/09/2...

Re: Tips and Tricks for RV's at Burning Man

Always remove as much playa as possible while its dry, using DRY methods.

Once you introduce just a little moisture into the equation everything changes, it becomes cemented to anything it's in contact with and complete removal becomes much more arduous.

Abandoned no, still sitting in the desert outside of the BM permit site yes.

As for an MV, no. My campmates used to have one that I helped a little bit on, but all of that changed a few years back.

Just making reference to the fate of La Contessa, the circumstances being vaguely similar and all... Comparing the Contessa with the 747 I think highlight a lot about how the event has changed. They're both big and kind of shit-shows but the similarities end there. They were both moved from the eve...

I sat and watched for a while, vowed to come back and climb it w/o a hat on and with shoes or boots, not the flip-flops I had on. PRO TIP THAT MOST OVERLOOK: Don't forget that if your generator's running like shit, you need to take the spark arrest screen out/apart and clean like new, and blow all of the soot out of the muffler before you put it back together. Usually accompanied by a full or partially fowled spark plug, just ...

After telling her that there is no such thing, she started insisting that they rent them at the airport... whatever. Those tourists left nearly all of their cig butts, glow sticks, veg/fruit tops and duct ta...
