Re: Cleaning EL/LED Clothing
It's kind of low tech, but I just vacuum my yeti LED coat when I get home. Yes it still feels a little coarse and the fur will probably mat up over time, but it doesn't get Playa dust on everything in the closet. I even wear it out in Defaultia from time to time.

Re: Seeking tips for taming long hair on the playa
I braid wool "dreads" into my hair, about 50 or so. This eliminates the need for any styling, keeps my hair protected, and looks awesome as well (in fact my hair is pretty much my costume for the week). The wool is surprisingly light and breathable, and it's somewhat flame retardant, so that is a pl...

Re: Anybody dressed as a desert arab during BM?
White cotton is great for daily wear as it reflects some heat and is breathable. But you may want to reconsider the long flowy robes if you are planning on biking much. Maybe you could hike them up with a garter clip type of thing.

Re: Any experiences wearing a SARI on the Playa?
Assuming your sari isn't mooptastic, I think you will have a great time wearing it. You might like to learn to tie it Kaccha style (fisherman pants like). There are some tutorials on Sari Safari, and also a ton of youtube videos. Here is the link to Sari Safari. http://www.sarisafari.com/howtowear.h...

Gift Economy that is alive and well
Hey there, I hope it is ok to share this article in this forum and I apologize if it's been previously posted, but I didn't see it in any other thread. It's about a gift-based economy in Mali, and I found it really interesting. It is an older article (2009) but it was a great reminder about how livi...

Re: Home, art, dubstep,..what is Burning Man to you?
The setting is part of what makes Burning Man so magical to me. The desert landscape is spectacular, and sunset and sunrise are the most special parts of the day. The environment is like a blank canvas, so expansive in any direction, and it makes me think of India meeting Amsterdam on the moon. Colo...

Re: NY Times chimes in on tickets - uggggggg
I found the lack of an Oxford comma interesting. Are both scalpers and first-timers loathed? Wait wait, don't answer that.Selling tickets online makes it difficult to distinguish between veteran Burners, loathed scalpers and first-timers, known as birgins in the lingo of festivalgoers.

I just bring whatever podcasts are on my iphone (usually something house-y). Great for the road trip and last year the nice folks at Arctica borrowed my iphone for a few hours of Dance Department (Dutch podcast) to keep things cheerful there.

yeah............ you'll get together, plan, and then next year BANG 70% of your new camp won't get tickets. Wake the fuck up. That doesn't apply to my situation, however I can see how that is a possibility for some camps and especially art projects. I hope the artists are not discouraged from compl...

Re: The End of Burning Man as we Know it.
Burning Man is continuously evolving and reinventing itself. To be honest, I think this shake-up is a good thing. New alliances will be made. Big camps (some of them) have gotten cliquey, downright rude and unwelcoming even, and maybe having smaller camps will encourage more participation and intera...

No ugly rumors, maybe we're discussing karma, not conspiracy.
Though you could say we have disproved the existence of relatively immediate karma.

I really like your sketch!
I also kind of veer toward the Post Apocalyptic Bedouin look. I like "ethnic" stuff and it is also practical for the desert and dust.
Would love to see your nighttime version too.

Re: How much alcohol should one bring?
Kinda late to this thread, but last year we brought extra liquor and actually had a hard time giving it away (actually still have it in a cabinet for this year). However, we brought coffee, and our campmates pretty much annihilated our coffee and milk supply in just a couple days. This year I will b...

I don't think "everyone" is buying too many tickets, but those who do are posting about it here with their strategies and justifications, etc.. Most of my friends are registering for what they need for themselves. I actually like the lottery system. I didn't have to be online at a specific time, did...

Auroville in India has been around for quite a long time (since the 60s), attracting international types. http://www.auroville.org/ They have a "free store", solar oven restaurants and an "intentional" community. I think these sorts of things always veer toward cultish which is why I'm wary of them.

I like some music from almost every genre, but I'm having a hard time loving dubstep. I want to love it, because it's becoming so prevalent, but it doesn't make me feel all tingly, and when I try to dance to it, I get all awkward and wonky (wonk wonk). So if Dubstep is the next AOL, does that mean m...

Expectations are a funny thing. I expected it to be dusty, but I didn't expect that I would actually kind of like the texture of the dust. I expected it to be a lot hotter and drink a lot more water. We didn't even use half our water, and the dry heat of the desert actually feels quite cool compared...
