Re: Deep Cycle Batteries and CPAP
My friend had his CPAP last year, and the battery charger for it pulled 10-12 amps. I think he might have gotten an extra/larger battery just in case, but the amperage of his charger was high enough that our EU2000 kicked off a couple of times when any other load was on it. I'm sure there are lots o...

Re: Portapotty costs
FFS this is not our first rodeo. I have no real issue with the public JOTS. When we had this idea, I did some searches on eplaya and elsewhere just to get some idea of the cost. The only thing I found was an old thread where the cost was ~$500, which seemed fairly reasonable. Given that, I asked for...

Re: Portapotty costs
Um, I was kidding about the buckets and dirt. I will use [facetious] tags from here on out. We thought about getting one because we got placed at A and roughly 2:45 and it would be nice to have a "known good" pp at any time of the day or night, but once we got the quote we decided it wasn't worth it.

Portapotty costs
I looked into getting a portapotty for our camp this year (from USS), and thought I would share the quote. We decided it was too pricy for our camp, so we're buying 5 gallon buckets and dirt for everyone. Here's the quote: Item Unit Quantity From Thru Unit Price Total Price Standard Restroom EA 1 08...

Re: Should Camp Finances be Public?
Basically what needs to happen here is the Borg needs to require ALL camps fully disclose where and what camp dues were spent on. No it doesn't have to be down to the penny but at least somewhat accurate - maybe something like the afterburn report issued by BM. This may not be a popular suggestion ...

Re: EXODUS, when did u leave. How long did it take 2 the roa
I would love to stay until Monday, but that means not getting back to Seattle until Wednesday and missing 2 more days of work, plus the kids start school and I gotta be there. We left Sunday afternoon at 1:10pm, took about an hour or a bit more to hit pavement (just driving the bus slowly), then 20 ...

Re: WIFI and Cell Phones... ??
Last year I was able to get texts and send them when I was out at the airport. Signal seemed decent out there. I think I may have made a voice call also, but that could have been the voices in my head. Wifi is very iffy in center camp. Last year I wasn't able to get it to work at all on an ipad or m...

My friend and I bought 2 cases of MREs for our 1st burn in 2008 (that was such a shitshow I've surprised we survived). A full case came back. We re-upped with a second case for 2010 (missed 2009) but that idiot I burn with bought the same "A" menu we already had. We also usually bring a couple of pa...

Don't pass a bus (or anyone else, but ESPECIALLY a bus) in a no passing zone uphill through the hills before Eagleville. Idiot. I know my bus is slow. If you're asked to exit the vehicle, but can't lock it (I'm driving a school bus and it is possible to lock it, it just requires a bit of work to do), does that mean the cop can look inside?

In 2008 we got there at ~7 am and were in line about an hour. We had about an hour or a bit more to try to set up before the dust storm from hell started. In 2010 we got there at ~8:00 and were in line about 2 hours. We had about 20 minutes to set up before it started raining. :) There, two data poi...

Re: Are wallmart tents OK 4 single use @ BM?
My first year I used a $30 walmart tent with no problems. Get an extra sheet and cover whatever you plan to sleep in all day/night, that keeps off the worst of the dust. There's no rain, so mostly the tent just holds some of the warmth in during the night, and heats up nicely once the sun comes up.

Last year we had more problems with suicidal squirrels than bunnies, but with the bus they squish the same. Re: Cars - Expensive and Dirty business
In 2008 I drove my F150 double cab Lariat to the playa. It was disaster inside when I got back (12 hour dust storms FTW!). I spent some time trying to get it clean, gave up, cringed, and paid a professional shop to detail it (in and out). Cost was ~$225 (this was in Bellevue, WA, FWIW). Truck was fi...
