Re: 6:00 Neighborhood Camps
If you check out the 2012 moop map , which shows camp placement, it might shed some light on the Law Enforcement Camp address. You can see to the right of the 6:00 keyhole, but not quite to the 5:30 radial on the Esplanade, is Ranger HQ. My guess is around there is what they mean by "Esplanade near ...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Yeah, it was wicked frustrating trying to get the fit just right, trying the clips one way and the other, wriggling the arms of the rack... but eventually it all came together and seems quite sturdy. Some old pack clips, a bike inner tube and a couple zip ties turned into a strap to hold whatever I'...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Danibel, I ran into the same problem trying to put my rear rack on my cruiser. No eyelets to attach the top part of the rack to my frame. They make racks that stick out from the seat post, but those will barely hold your pack let alone giving a small friend a lift. Here's the solution I found: link ...

Re: HexaYurts
We usually do multiple yurts on big tarps. Thinking about putting a second tarp inside of my yurt, up the walls on the inside... Should be solid protection, hopefully can get away with not taping it just holding it up to the walls with bins, mattress, etc. Lucky, how do you deal with the corners of ...

Re: HexaYurts
Anyone here ever experimented with taping the tarp up a bit higher on the walls? Inside or outside?
2010's light storms I only got a few puddles because of the tape gap at the door....but if we get a nice shower like last night's, I don't want to be sleeping on a soggy floor.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
As I was sorting stuff into piles on the floor, I looked at the 4 skeins of rope and got to thinking..... How much rope should I bring? How many tie down straps? How many lights? How much....of each????? I had one of those HOLY CRAP moments!!!! All of it. Isn't that always the answer? ALL OF IT. Ma...

TT, is that Jungo?
Thanks to whomever mentioned the "fluffy things in stuff sack" idea - I think this made me able to eliminate one 20 gal tote and replace it with a large, but squishable, stuff sack that will be much more forgiving to pack!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Picked up the last of the essential camp infrastructure items (not that those last few ratchet straps are the make-it-or-break-it difference between camp flying away and staying in place, but...you never know), cleaned off the ol' white board and drew a "sitting in camp bingo" game on it, and I thin...

6 would be doable if all of your things were stored elsewhere. I can't imagine 6 people and all of their things being a very comfortable fit in there.

Sit in your front yard some time around sun-up with a megaphone in one hand and a beer in the other and ask the morning joggers how the party was last night. Thanks Savannah! I don't think it was that wet in 2010, and that storm I hid from. This was just a few weeks ago. One can only fight the rain for so long before embracing it.
Almost got myself a spray bottle/fan combo... resisted that impulse today though.

Hey guys, been a while. I'm busy preppin' these days - but all my playa family is far away, so I'll share my excitement here instead :o Today was a good one - fixed up the playa cruiser, managed to fit a rear rack on it with some hardware magic. Dusted off the old chairs...and splurged on a new one ...

Despite the volume of material I've read, I still can't imagine that it's all that big. I assume I could walk from one side of the circle (diameter) in 20 minutes, and around the perimiter in 45. But from what I read...that's just not true. You know, even if the physical size of the event perimiter...

FINE!
A spanking is a small price to pay to earn the right to babble on a subject with no real conversational value. Perhaps the spectacle will even serve as entertainment.
But you know what they say, don't dish it out if you can't take it.

What's the point of the first half of August, anyway? Sleeping is getting harder, to-do lists are finally shrinking instead of growing, organizational meetings are completed, bags can only be packed and re-packed so many times, and I'm really ready to escape Defaultia. I guess what I'm trying to say...

Get it, girl. Way to be self-reliant.
You shouldn't have a problem purchasing the necessary PVC in Reno ahead of time, especially if you're heading in early again. But buying ahead of time and test building is always the smart way to go.

Re: Looking for cheap shade options
That sunshade looks pretty sweet, and would cost probably about the same, or slightly more, than a monkey hut -- assuming you sourced that PVC stateside and not at crazy Canadian prices! Essentially you're going to pay a lot for a premade item of mediocre ability to stand up to the desert, or you've...

Do we emphasize the nylon twists and braids to the point of objectification?
Do we over-promote the benefits of knots and hitches and thus abuse their use?
Are we ignoring the benefits of the consenting union of two sides of the simple ratchet strap?

You can always "milk" the valve a bit and squirt out some water before drinking to make sure there's no muddy dust stuck inside.
I think I'd get more annoyed taking a cover on and off, but I'm a lazy sack of shit, so there's that.

Re: Show us your cup (drinking)
I'm intro straws. My first playa cup was a crappy $1 craft store cup with a built in straw. I melted a hole near the top, hooked a carabiner through, it was great for holding a nice big mixed drink. The open top, no insulation, and straw feeding directly from the bottom made for dusty lukewarm drink...
