The price point isn't the issue - the mass availability and outright commercial nature of internet availability is the sticking point that we're up against, and that shouldn't be too hard to understand. but both are very related, aren't they? with low price-point, there is mass availability. so the...

With proper approvals, you can market and sell your work with the "Burning Man" label online. that's what i'm trying to do: just get permission to sell prints of my photos. not $300 fine-art prints, but cheaper prints, with smugmug or similar outlets (e.g. zenfolio). and i don't want any "Burning-M...

Tristan, I like your photography. thanks! I think pursuing your work at Burning Man should be it's own reward. That you have been given a free ticket, weeks of highly coveted early arrival to take nearly exclusive photos of the construction, use of a basket crane for your photography, and probably ...

My impression was that the method of sale & the content of the photos were the issues of concern not the price. yeah, the method is probably part of the problem. i want to sell prints cheap using on-line ordering with good but inexpensive companies such as smugmug. the point is to make it easy for ...

thanks actiongirl. i appreciate your honest answer above, and i understand that significant policy changes are not something usually made fast, since they involve many people from all sides. what's the right of the artist if your print of the Temple goes viral and is purchased in the thousands? i wi...

How do other burners recoup costs for gifting pancakes, or pendants or rides on an mutant vehicle? How about the use of a chill tent, DJ's compilations or producing laser/light shows? I think the issue is that no one is guaranteed any recoup of any cost. Thank you for posting your pics - I enjoyed ...

Can I say it? ... Served. *lol* On the flipside Tristan, as a 2010 incoming burner I need to thank you. Watching your slideshow yesterday inspired me to go out and buy the camping gear I made a list of when I "said" I was gonna go. Now I'm invested almost $700 and waiting for tickets to go onsale. ...

> Tristan, you seem to work hard to impute bad motives on our part and to sling arrows at me because you choose to bring expensive photographic equipment to a private event and take photos of it. i can't believe what i'm reading there. i'm sorry to say but you got it wrong. i'm one of the doc-team p...

The difference is mass distribution and profit. mass distribution is already there, with the web. there are tens of thousands of BM photos on the web, that are viewed and downloaded millions times every week. people can even get then on their wall if they have those nifty "electronic frames" with W...

Tristan, did they have a problem with simply selling prints online thru a service or was it because you didn't have model releases for the people/art in your photographs? I ask because I was considering doing the same thing with the photos I took this year (I was the Temple crew's photographer). In...

MOD NOTE: Although your work is awesome, I had to remove the ad. I normally delete posts with ads, but simply removed it this time and left the rest of the links to some awesome photography. MDMF thanks. it was not an "ad". many people asked me how they could get prints of my photos. that's why i s...

on each photo-page on flickr, you can click on the "More Properties" (toward the bottom of the right column) to get all the details about the camera, the lens and the parameters used. I was mostly shooting with a Sony (Minolta) A700 DSLR and a 17-50mm F2.8 lens (35mm equiv 28-75mm), and a Sigma 10-2...

woman ran-over after passing-out UNDER a parked art-car
on sunday night one woman, who fell asleep / passed-out UNDER a parked art-car, got run-over by the art-car when it started to move. that happened near the hookadome. Note: it is NOT a good idea to pass-out UNDER a parked art-car. the woman was conscious when she got taken away by an ambulance, so h...

this is my CCD sensor after Burning Man
last year i had problems with one of my Tamron zoom lens: a lot of dust got in the lens, between the glass elements. I managed to remove most of it but i had to disassemble parts of that lens.

There was a large-scale police action on the playa at dawn sunday morning. They arrested several people, apparently for drugs. LEO guys were in ambush around the big flaming yellow ducky art car where people were dancing., observing people with binoculars, and at one point they did the bust with dog...

i find it strange that even their "fail whale" is now offline. i think they should create a blog (e.g. on blogger) where they could post updates when the tribe.net site is down. 4 days off-line is bad. especially for a site that people rely upon to stay connected with friends. i don't trust tribe an...
