Ventilation. Has anyone ever used an attic ventilator like this? How should I best filter it? How necessary is fitting a filter to it? I plan on sealing it closed during the day and opening it in the evening to let things cool off. How many 1 foot by 2 foot vent holes should I put in? etc, etc. and ...

6' Stretch Hexayurt with 2" R-Max Ventilation? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4078/4908337000_d36c2215c3_m.jpg Whirly Bird! I figured the normal triangle roof panels were stronger than the long (rhombus?) ones. Now I just need to cut vent holes. I figure 1 on each side. The A/C filters ...

OK, 2" R-Max is a lot of work. You need to cut through it very straight. It insulates like crazy. Test build was a success. Pics to come.

And no, cutting the 8 foot sheets down to 4'x4' squares did not hurt at all.

Got the R-Max today. Haven't built it yet but I can tell you that the 2" R-Max may be more trouble than it's worth. 7 pieces x 2" x double up (cut in half) =28". That is one hell of a thick brick to stick on top of your car. If I had a truck it would be no problem. Note: get a 48" drywall square (me...

6 foot stretch hexayurt mod

Angle aluminum? Furring strips? Extra burners? Wink -Badger ----- Good ideas. The angle aluminum won't work because we're trying to make two 4'x4' pieces of foam board into one 4'x8' piece. Maybe a flat piece of aluminum or 2 perpendicular to the seam and taped down? maybe something lighter or stif...

Reinforcement:

If the long walls and ceiling pieces are in danger of buckling they should be reinforced (beyond additional tape)

What can be done to strengthen these seems without adding additional weight?

BJurts are interesting but provide none of the benefits of a Hexayurt: heat insulation, noise insulation, dust-proof, etc.

Easier to transport stretch yurt

I have been wondering the same thing. The 2 long side panels will have to be cut in half as well as the long roof panels.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Any suggestions on how to best reinforce those panels?
