Got into the STEP program. They sent a confirmation email too, so if you are second guessing make sure to check that. They also mentioned in a later email that they are just allowing a certain amount of people in the program right now.. and to check back randomly to re-enter. Seems like the crashing...

First come priority sounds like both good and bad for us burners.
They forget that the scalpers also didn't get all the tickets they wanted though. But at least the NEW scalpers won't get further ahead of us.

I agree.. my friend won a ticket and he's a virgin! There are people last year who got tickets as virgins who I thought "Why haven't they been here sooner?" If you don't buy, then supply and demand forces the prices to go down. That's fine if you buy -- but it just helps enable them. I'd love to see these guys lose a crap load of money. I'd rather make my own local burn with that extra $600... or even donate to a project on the playa that I'll never see.

I'm going to say... the thing I hate most about this system is the waiting. For a month we had to wait to be selected.. and then we had to wait for two days for an email saying yes/no. NOW we have to wait a month for Step.. and two months for the final lottery. Last year I was lucky and wasn't part ...

Scalpers will crumble if we don't give in to their high prices. If they crumble hard this year -- they wouldn't touch this event with a ten foot pole next year! Let them sit for a few months holding these tickets that burners refuse to buy... they'll get desperate and drop any high prices.

Burning man isn't free because they need to pay others to make the event work (bathrooms, clean up, machine equipment) Scalpers are disliked because they turn buying a ticket into a business. I have two friends who apply to win tickets and then sell them (discounted) to make money... it's a win-win....

The one thing I think might come up is that people overbuy tickets but can't sell them quick enough... maybe instead of prices going up, we find they dip down a bit because of burners with 4 extra tickets they don't want.
