My favourite piece of art this year was the thing around the 7 o'clock spoke of inner playa, the tall rectangular open-mesh box that had flaming logs inside it....it turned around like a Ferris wheel, and the logs would tumble around like in a giant Rain Stick and sparks would fly everywhere and th...

Kyle, I would actually recommend that you don't go with a huge theme camp your first year -- it's a wonderful thing to wander around and get a sense of what Burning Man is (for you) first. Having said that, it definitely helps to have some friends (off-playa OR new friends) around, especially if you...

There's a thread called "one thing I had known for my first burn . . . " http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=34770 Savannah, I had a lot of fun reading that thread too! Now that you bring it up, I suppose my questions here are more relevant there... but it never hurts to ask around :) Elor...

Hey, MacVs! Best of luck finding tickets - search this site, various craigslist regions, etc. You shouldn't have too much difficulty, especially if you're willing to pay current price. Several of us Orphans have banded together to form an "informal" sort of camp, as C187 mentioned. You can find that...

I advocate just baking on site. So much tastier! Here are 3 ovens to consider, from least to most expensive: Coleman Camp Oven (sits on your camp stove), $39.95 http://bit.ly/akQBTI Coleman Portable Oven (propane powered), $129.99 http://bit.ly/9stEAA Camp Chef Camping Outdoor Oven with 2 Burner Ca...

Thanks, stretch! I think I'll be setting up camp with my fellow Orphans, so at least some arrangements are (tentatively) in place. Here's another question: I imagine that the vastness of the festival can be way overwhelming for new burners. I'm planning to just jump right in, but does anyone have th...

Gee, thanks for the welcome! I've spent the full day devouring as much of the website as possible, and I've bookmarked a good amount of outside reading material to last me until the festival itself  Anyone else out there with a solo virgin playa experience who cares to share some words of wisdo...

NEW (orphan) Lady Burner from SF
Hello! I am so beyond thrilled to be attending my first Burning Man, and also amused by this 95% absolutely crazy whim. I was just able to secure a last-minute ticket, and so far I have no gear, no camp, no ride, and little funds.
Pleased to meet you! :)
