New sheriff cracking down on nudity in 2015?
I've been reading interviews with Jerry Allen, the new Pershing County sheriff. He seems to be saying he's going to be going after people for being naked in public. Do you think he's serious, or is this just political posturing to make him look good to the voters? Am I risking a ticket or a jail cel...

Hopefully the bit about nudity is just political posturing with little substance. Sheriff is an elected position in the US, isn't it?

They don't mention blister beetles. Seems like this article is really downplaying things compared to their earlier language.

Re: Bug Status Update
They like to hide under wood (presumably under any tent or table as well) and secrete a chemical called cantharadin through their joints. They're called blister beetles because when you crush, rub, or flick them (don't slap them against against your skin!) they release this chemical which can cause ...

From the article:Elderberry wrote:Looks like they found out what the bugs are.
“Desert species are prone to boom/bust cycles,” Wild explained. And then he offered a ray of hope for Burners heading to the desert in a couple of weeks: “[They] may just be passing through.”

Antihistamines. The kind you take once every 24 hours. Because the swelling and itching from bug bites is a histamine response. Does the trick when I go camping in Ontario.

Re: Making a translucent tarp more opaque
Fair enough. I'll probably get a black sheet and experiment a bit without worrying too much about perfection. I'm guessing it's more likely to be effective on the underside.

Making a translucent tarp more opaque
So I got a Eureka VCS 16 tarp (basically the same thing as Noah's Tarp). I did a test pitch in the park and found its sunlight blocking abilities could be better. I'm planning to get a black king size bed sheet or two to clip to it with spring clamps, but I was wondering if there's a better solution...

Need ride from SFO to Reno or BRC Saturday or Sunday
Hi there! I'm looking for a ride from San Francisco on Saturday or Sunday. Ideally I'd get all the way to BRC with one ride, but just getting me as far as Reno would be helpful too (I don't have an early arrival pass). A ride back to Reno after the Burn would be a bonus, but that's optional. Expecte...

Re: Who got tickets in the Individual Sale?
I clicked the button the second it appeared at noon. Got put in the queue with an estimated wait time of 20 minutes or so. Then it jumped to over an hour. Then it said the queue had been paused. Then it got below an hour, started jumping down in increments greater than one minute per minute, got dow...

Is that fine for grommets too? Or would a bow line be a better choice for those?

Just had another thought. Is there any reason you couldn't use bungee cords to hook the four corners of your tent to the monkey hut's four corner rebar stakes?

The diagram seems to indicate that the spine is a single uncut 10' pipe. Am I correct in concluding that this design does not require any cutting of pipes?

Re: Made a monkey hut tutorial for those who need diagrams.
Home Depot usually carries tons of bungees. Maybe not in packs of twenty, but I know I just picked up a ton of extra balls (64) and bungees at my local home depot in Sacramento, CA. If your local one is out, somewhere along the way is sure to have packs of some sort. I usually get the black long on...

Ah. Reason I ask is finding a 20 pack of bungee balls in my city on short notice is apparently asking a lot. Figure they'll still have plenty of those in Reno by Sunday? Or maybe I could just double up the zip ties.

I'm going to substitute rope for bungees, rebar for nails and zip ties for bungee balls. I assume that won't cause any problems?

Huh! I don't know where I got the idea it was 10x20. That instructional page clearly says 10x12. Thanks!VultureChow wrote:I should add that the footprint is actually 10x12 and not 10x20
Now I just need to find a ride or rides who is/are cool with 10' PVC poles.

Re: MINI monkey hut?
The load will scale linearly while it's ability to deal with it diminishes exponentially. Going in the other direction you lose the stability afforded by bending the PVC to it's critical radius. The size you see commonly used was no accident. ;) Well. You're the first person to offer a technical ex...

Re: MINI monkey hut?
Both reasons. Minimizing travel space requirements where possible is a huge plus for me since I have to rideshare, and a 10x20 footprint seems excessive for just a small tent.Martiansky wrote:Schtev,
Is the reason you are wanting a smaller monkeyhut due to travel space or do you just want a smaller version?

Re: MINI monkey hut?
You could probably infer something from the lack of posts about reduced sized monkey huts over the last decade. Smaller sized pieces don't bend and flex the same as the bigger/full sized pieces do. Don't take my word for it, be radically self reliant, spend a couple bucks at your local hardware sto...

Re: MINI monkey hut?
How small are we talking here? The design is a basically a half circle. So if you used on 10' section of pvc instead of joining two together, you'd get a monkey hut with a width of approx 6' and a height of 3'. It would just be to shade a small tent around 3 and a half feet high. Just trying to est...

MINI monkey hut?
So I've done some searching on ePlaya and come across some passing references to the concept, but I haven't found any solid info or blueprints/plans. Is there such a thing as a MINI monkey hut? Something with a smaller footprint than the plans hosted on Chromatest's website? Would love to hear from ...
