Michael's has a huge selection of holiday/Christmas abstract silk floral stuff right now. Since it's glittery I sprayed it with a clear gloss acrylic till it was dripping wet to prevent moop-age.Eric wrote:Looks great! What did you use for the "moth antennae" at the back?

Re: headdress substrate
A close up shot. For the insect eyes I glued hundred of glass beads to craft foam half-spheres.

Re: headdress substrate
Hey thanks for the suggestions everyone, here's the finished product. I ended up using an old fedora I had buried in my closet.

headdress substrate
Last year I made a (vegan) mohawk style headdress, photo below. For an upcoming event in Denver I'd like to make an insect themed headdress that's much more front loaded and "Princess Leia" style. I've got two things I'd like advice on. 1) how does the strap...

Re: yurtini, starshade, noah’s tarp and other simple geometr
You guys rock for giving me things to consider. I'm also thinking about a little something like this, it would be much harder for the wind to get up underneath on first glance AND give me those walls I'd kinda like. http://blog.naver.com/PostView.nhn?blogId=jg0327&logNo=50174193449 MSR_Pavilion_tarp...

Re: yurtini, starshade, noah’s tarp and other simple geometr
your idea might work brilliantly, it's just that it's unproven. I suppose that's part of what I like, coming up with ideas at home and then taking them out and see how they work. Course that tune could change if in '14 the roof blows away and a tower falls over landing on my car windshield ;) BTW h...

Re: yurtini, starshade, noah’s tarp and other simple geometr
They are pretty, but I worry (a lot) about wind. Thoughts? The cornucopia does look a bit like a giant wind scoop or funnel if pointed in the wrong direction, I think that's one of multiple reasons I'm revisiting the design. If a case can be made that the other designs are unsound I'd love to hear ...

Re: Your Holiday Plans 2014...
Giving a playa-fur hat that I made to a virgin friend who's joining me in 2014. An oversized silver bow seemed like an appropriate way to wrap it.

Re: Those beautiful laser cut city map necklaces
In that do-ocracy spirit I came up with a design inspired by this year's city map, found someone with a laser engraver and made my own. Here's the finished product.

yurtini, starshade, noah’s tarp and other simple geometries
I drive a honda civic so I'm in the process of designing a shade structure where every piece must be under 5 ft in length. My first design had been this horrible cornucopia looking thing which became narrow and extremely low the farther back you get. The main design element are two 13 ft tall diamon...

Re: Those beautiful laser cut city map necklaces
Are you talking about these? (Some have the city laser cut, some the tree, some flames.....and a few rare ones have a unicorn cut out.)
I do love those and got one while on the playa but alas no the item I'm looking for is an intricately cut metal map of the city, so intricate...

Who made those laser cut metal BRC map pendants?
Just got back from my first burn (woot) and I saw people in beautiful laser cut / etched pendants of the BRC city map. I had a look around etsy and kickstarter schwag but can't seem to find who made them. Anyone have a lead for me? They were among the most beautiful works of art and I'd really love ...
