Re: ticket situation
edit: deleted previous bitching to replace with a productive suggestion. I think that right after the event is over this year, it would be a good idea to shoot out surveys and polls asking people: How they got their tickets (initial sale, STEP, friends/campmates, craigslist, scalpers) How early did ...

Re: STEP has launched... but server crashed immediately
Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) We're sorry, but the STEP queue is now closed. You should have received an email from Burning Man with information about the limitations of the queue including if and/or when it will be reopened. That was after 15 minutes of "Connection reset." My workpl...

Re: Only one ticket allowed from step?
When do STEP register emails start? They haven't announced it yet, to my knowledge. Sometime at or before the end of the month I suppose. Yea I don't like the one-ticket-per-registry option either, but as was mentioned in an earlier post it was the only way BMOrg could minimize further hoarding. Th...

Re: STEP sellers should be fully reimbursed
I agree here- yes, I understand that the $7 per ticket already went to services rendered... but after creating a hell of a lot of incentives for people to not play by the rules, it would behoove them to remove any lingering disincentives that they can. I think they did mention that they were eating ...

Re: Only one ticket allowed from step?
Unfortunately since I registered for myself and my S.O, I am also one of the ones "screwed" by the one-ticket-per-step-registrant policy... but at this point BMOrg is in damage control mode. Making everyone happy isn't a luxury they can afford anymore. I think this also underscores the fact that pol...

Re: Lotto... tempting regular folks into scalping?
I believe I read that the STEP program will be up and operational shortly after the lotto results come in. That would give people MONTHS of time to transfer reserved tickets in an official manner, before they are delivered and readily scalp-able. I would imagine that having tickets only "officially"...

Re: SOPA compliance
Sopa will die. It will die a thousand deaths. If it doesn't and BurningMan is targeted for DNS kick/ban, it will be subjected to the Streisand Effect and gain in popularity. People will do whatever it takes to get to the website (which isn't much given how easy SOPA/PIPA is to circumvent.) Either th...

Re: bell tent or kodiak/springbar
I used a springbar on my first burn and it worked great! Not fancy, but it was easy to set up and had all of the basics. All it needs is a shade structure draped around it and you would be good to go. I picked the Kodiak because I was flying into Nevada and had to use something that I could fedex to...

Well it look like there system didn't work. Well, it looks like you're a pessimist. Here's your frownie sticker  I will start freaking out only if all of the below conditions are met: 1. I don't get any tickets during the main sale. 2. I don't get any tickets after attempting the open sale...

Re: Everyone buying too many tickets?
Man, all of this talk of hoarding, scalping, incentives etc. is making me want to re-read books on Austrian Economics :D The biggest factor that regulates hoarding in any free-market economic system is cost , plain and simple. As trilobyte mentioned, Burning man also discourages hoarding by putting ...

Re: 2012 - the End of Money?
Wow, those look amazing! Nice job! If you are planning on making a swimming pool filled with notes on the playa, you may want to have some kind of system in place to prevent them from blowing away- or better yet, set up a mesh cage full of money that people can enter, and the winds of the playa can ...

Re: Tier Terrorists
After reading a lot of the back and forth about the new ticket sales method, I have deduced that there is an inverse relationship between fretting about the ticket system, and the length of time one is able to stay aroused during coitus. Please pass this information along post-haste to anyone you th...

Re: Showering in Black Rock City
The self-watering methods I saw most frequently were: Water spritzers and camping body wipes to spot clean (the method I used) Bring a solar shower and find a tall friend to hold it up for you. Make sure you reward them because water is heavy! Perch an aquatainer over a ladder and put a evap pool un...

Re: Poll on what tiers will you participate in
Sorry I had to get the rant out... back to the OP, I'd say I am going to go full-monty and hope I get a lower tier. That's the philosophy I had last year, and I received middle-tier tickets.

Re: Poll on what tiers will you participate in
For those who are scared poopless about not making the raffle this year, might I remind you... It took until July for tickets to officially "sell out" last year. While the event is growing in popularity, I'm not convinced that demand will be SO high that 100,000 people will instantly put in for tick...

I sent Doc a PM about this, but in case he is busy... Your camp(s) looked fun when I stopped by there last year... got any room for two more? Backstory- My first burn was last year and I went with a friend; we didn't join any theme camps but after seeing some of the others it looked like a fun way t...

Re: Costs & Logistics of Flying to Reno
My first burn was last year... I had a friend in Phoenix who was going with me, but I live on the East Coast. I owned a badass canvas tent that we were going to use for shelter. Note that if you try to rent a car in Reno, don't be surprised if they make you sign a waiver saying "I will not take this...

Re: Stuck in NYC because of Irene...
From Virginia here; my flight on Saturday was cancelled by the airline and a US Airways robot called me today telling me so. The robot gave me a number to call, and when I did a nice lady from Phoenix answered and said "Flight was cancelled from the hurricane, huh? Wanna reschedule?" It was a bit of...
