As special and unique those garments are, you probably ought to post pictures of what each looks like or it'll be hard for people to identify.

Re: EMT Conduit Couplers

I'd like to use something like that too, because I'd like to fit such conduits into an SUV. Still, there's just something about that coupler you've linked there that makes me wary that it'd buckle. Maybe something like some 3/4" IMC tubing could fit inside the EMT to provide the connector you need? ...

Re: Getting playa dust out of clothes

You should probably just dry-clean that jacket like the instructions say. I think Eric mentioned he dry-cleans his suits after the Burn.

I just wash my normal clothes in the washing machine. Works just fine and they're no worse for wear.

Re: Transporting large poles

I started using carports over monkey huts because the poles were only 6'6" long and could fit inside my vehicle, instead of 10ft... but that was using a Subaru Outback. I've got friends who have transported them in Toyota Priuses, but not a Honda Civic; a Honda Civic is way too small. Maybe see if t...

Your shade may be more important than your tent, so look for some carports at Costco if you can, or build a monkey hut or something. It SUCKS without shade unless you plan on sleeping only at night.

More of pulling back the number of tickets allocated as DGS tickets, and having them go into more volunteer or "general populace"-type allocations. I want the DGS tickets to fulfill their original purpose: provide enough tickets for the "core" burners in camps in order to maintain cohesion, but not ...

Re: Volunteerism Decline Discussion

Ah I hope the DGS ticket system gets fixed. The current system creates a legacy system that favors, and funnels people into, established camps because they can receive tickets via those camps, and some camps even recruit using those tickets (as sanctioned by the event). Allocating tickets for people...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...

Drills aren't good for lag screws because the bits are meant to freely spin as they bore, not catch on hard materials. When using a drill as a mechanical screwdriver you don't want the "bit" to freely spin. However, unless it is relatively easy to screw into the ground, the screw-bit will catch, ref...

Some cameras are dustproof by design and can vibrate off any dust that happens to get inside. That said, often the lenses will allow (suck) dust in especially if they're telephoto lenses. Even on P+S cameras I often would turn it on inside a bag or something just in case it was sucking in dust via t...

However, convenience is relative and is affected by numerous outside factors which creates very real ambiguities that the BRC Cultural Direction role players are probably aware of, for example: 1) Burners should set up their own accommodations (tents) to experience what it is like to become part of...

Looks good, but you might want to avoid the insulation on the ducting. The insulation can be MOOPy, the fatter pipe can be a pain to position, and generally won't improve the performance much.

I'd only switch to a mountain bike if I weren't able to gear down my cruiser to something more easy to pedal or power through some dunes. Otherwise, I would not miss the mountain bike handlebars or the seats. Apehangers and a cruiser seat are wonderful.

Yeah, I thought they had gone to a lottery-like system a couple years ago specifically to avoid these server issues. I also thought it went smoother in those years too, but the BMORG can never be satisfied to allow that to happen.

It's impossible to police people paying other camp members for services. The whole "dues" thing is a gray area and forbidding it is unenforceable. Even banning Humano was probably more about their LNT record than any kind of fees they were supposedly charging their members, despite whatever the post...

You can start preparing now for next year, and also get involved in some of your Burning Man regionals (the local burns which go on in spring and summer), which usually require far less preparation than the main burn, but give you a good taste (or in some ways, a better taste) of these events and cu...

A general search on Google will probably reveal what you need to listen into scanner broadcasts and stuff. If the police or whoever don't want you to listen in they'll used secure channels though, so whatever chatter you tune into won't carry anything particularly juicy.

Regardin the trash problem on Nevadas roads. There is already an unused tool to prevent/punish those who lose trash along Nevada's roads. Don't provide what you are not willing or able to pack out yourself, unless you've guaranteed that others will pick up that slack. I hate it when people knife those 2-gallon containers. If you want to pour out more at a time just pull the spout off the end and it flows freely with a huge hole. It's ...
