Re: Question about my bike

I covet a Rohloff Speedhub, which is 14 internal gears. The hubs cost a fortune, but outlast everything and actually work out to be less expensive in the long run. Another advantage of internal hubs is the ability to shift without pedaling, such as at a red light or sudden change in navigation (towa...

I need a VP to travel from Portland, OR

I'll be in Media Mecca again, and plan to arrive early again; new for 2017, I'll be camping in Dye With Dignity, so I can be of help there arriving early. Past years I used Burner Express (which is awesome!) but I plan to arrive a day or two before the earliest BXB, which I didn't think of when I bo...

A lot of brain power goes into not just branding, but defending the branding and intellectual property of the Burning Man community. Soooo should I tell on Amazon for selling a burning man baseball cap? https://www.amazon.com/Burning-Logo-Mesh-Baseball-Black/dp/B01M18QN58/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid...

Re: If you are driving from the Pacific Northwest a place to rest etc free

I'm moving from Austin to better places in Cascadia in a couple of weeks, so this will be my first year of traveling to Black Rock City from somewhere other than central Texas.

This sounds like a pretty sweet place to stop en route from downtown Portland.

Thanks!

Re: Can I carry knives?

When confronted by a wiring problem recently, one of my friends asked me for a knife. Gave me the perfect reason to hand him my Leatherman multi-tool with the Crocodile Dundee line: "Now THAT's a knife!". It has a knife blade AND wire strippers on it. You had me at "strippers"

What they said! Widest tires that will fit in the fork and the rear stays, with something like 1/4" minimum clearance on each side. And fairly smooth "city" tread. 26 x 2.125 is a common size, but may be too wide. A smaller common size is 1.95. And FIGJAM's point about inflation rela...

Re: Biking into the dust. General Bike info for the Playa.

I still haven't done a bit of maintenance to the bike I brought to the playa, other than lubing the chain. I added some layers of grit (mud, wet sand, some of which washed away from rain and creek crossings) and it works just fine. I should mention it's not a cheap bike (the hubs are bombproof DT Sw...

It's freaking awesome out here. So far our structures are holding. More importantly so are our neighbors. 70 miles per hour gusts as per weather service, can't see three feet in front of you. Music is playing. Along with the frantic sounds of rebar being pounded in a hurry. Traffic had been stopped...

That map is almost, but not quite, entirely inaccurate. It's close enough for Burning Man. We all know that the shit hits the fan once one enters the city. All bets are off. We're equally doomed as we are safe. To quote Slayer: "Minutes seem like days Since the fire ruled the sky The rich beca...

Heavy duty trash bags or Tyvek adhered to the windward side of the mesh would probably do the same thing with fewer seems. If you really want to go pro, cover both sides of the mesh, but leave a small opening or window or something to allow some sort of ventilation. It's not possible to dust proof a...

Yeah I feel all of these. I never called BRC "home" myself, always felt uncomfortable with that. When you stop calling it home. I personally have never called, or thought of Burningman as "home". My home is where my family, dogs, and my shop are. Burningman is just a 3 week acti...

I always interpreted "Home" as just being more comfortable on the playa than in defaultia. Yeah, this is how I always interpreted it. For some people it's the only place they can be themselves, at least until they figure out how to incorporate that into their real lives. +1 to this. I did...

I got lucky with a ticket from a seller here on ePlaya, but I heard nothing from STEP.

I'm curious about how many tickets were sold through it, and conversely, how many tickets will languish unsold as the gates open.
