Re: Barbie Death Village Reno Hotel Deal 2015

FYI, the current rack rate for pre and post playa dates is LESS than this deal. If you haven't booked yet, make sure you check the prices on the website before calling.

Re: Coolers and Mylar, how to?

I started this thread last year. Let me just say, it was not worth it to do any extra insulating/reflective mylar work on my small cooler. It's better to just start out with a larger, heavy duty cooler.

Re: Coolers and Mylar, how to?

What we have done is lined the interior with mylar. We make sure there is enough left over material on the top to wrap around things. Net effect is everything is wrapped in mylar. For the drive up we seal the cooler with tape. this is what I want to do, and basically wanted a few folks to say it wa...

Coolers and Mylar, how to?

Hi, I'd like to do something with mylar and my cooler to help insulate. I'm finding conflicting information. Should I line the EXTERIOR of my cooler or my INTERIOR of my cooler with mylar? What do YOU do, and what works in your experience? Of course I already have plans to lift it off the grounded i...

Hand Sanitizer

Hi everyone, 2014 will be my third burn. I've got a great routine to keep my hands in good condition (featuring THESE TWO Burt's Bees products at night, plus gloves to really soak it in) but I'm looking to step it up a notch this year. I'm thinking of eschewing the typical purell type hand sanitizer...

Re: Where can I buy bent rebars in the bay area?

I'm a big fan of using straight rebar as well, and then topping it with a tennis ball. You can buy tennis balls in a 3 pack at the dollar store (or a 6 pack if they have the "dog toy" balls in stock) and just cut a one inch slit in it. Poke the rebar through the tennis ball and you're set!

Re: Barbie Death Village Reno Hotel Deal 2014

I just went to the Sands website, and the current rack rate for all the dates I was seeking was $34. I decided to just book at that rate, instead of having to call, wait on hold, and speak to an actual human being for the $4 savings. Thanks Barbie Death Camp, for reminding me to make my reservations...

Re: Exodus 2013 - How was it?

My car left camp at 9&C 5:40 pm Sunday. We hit pavement 11:30 pm. Pulses were NOT a mile. We took 4 hours to go 1.5 miles.

4 hours to Reno from pavement. Slept at Sands.

After Reno we got stuck behind the flipped RV about 2-3 hours. parked on I 80 and blasted music. About 7 hours Reno to Oakland.

Hi all- I called to reserve at this rate over the phone. The Reservation Specialist said if there's some kind of paperwork "proving" the original $57 rate vs the new $80 rate we should print it out and bring it with us to check in. That should be all they need to honor the original price. So, my qu...

Re: Cleaning duffel bags, backpacks etc

I took two backpacks with me. One is a standard Jansport bag with fabric body and leather bottom. I've been using it for well over a decade. It goes in the washing machine and then hang dries a couple times a year. The bag is normally black, it came home from the playa white (no joke!) and is now ba...

Re: Cleaning Tips?

Diluted vinegar spray & Awesome brand cleaner do wonders to remove playa from all sorts of stuff. An important note: If you clean off your bike chain, lube it ASAP. I prefer Pedros Ice Wax, but at least 3-in-1 oil if nothing else. The minute you clean your chain it will begin to rust, so get it gre...

I went to a place called Classic and Classy in Oakland, approximately 40th and MacArthur. Sketchy neighborhood, and definitely not classic NOR classy. However, they were willing to negotiate on price (Got them down from $80 to $30, cash) and did the best cleaning job I've ever seen.

Re: precooking meals for reheating on playa

For those following along at home - we did NOT end up cooking food in the ziplocks after all. I packed it in ziplocks to the playa in our cooler, and then poured the food directly into a pot or pan for reheating on the stove. Less greywater, less risk of chemicals leaching out. Worked fine. Also, al...

People jumping on moving art cars without asking was my biggest problem. A woman jumped on our art car as it was moving down a busy street. I have used Ziploc Freezer Bags for reheating directly into "hot" water not boiling water. We double bag & thaw the frozen food first. That way your only heating it up & not having to boil the water ( which takes a long time on a camp stove.) We've done carnitas, stew, chili, scrambled eggs w/ vegg...

precooking meals for reheating on playa

Hi eplaya, I'm a virgin, and superduper jazzed to be going to the playa in a few days. I've read everything I can find on eplaya and other websites. I'm doing a big cooking fest tomorrow afternoon and freezing food to stash in the cooler. I have two big questions, however. 1. I've found lots of refe...
