Re: cooling your tent or van
Oh yeah, we had a bad experience with non-clean melt water from the cooler. It is not pleasant to sleep in cool cooked chicken air! I do not recommend gray water

Re: cooling your tent or van
My next upgrades:
1. 12v Deep Cycle Battery
2. 50 watt Solar Panel
3. Complete rebuild to increase capacity
Question: Does the circulating water design scrub all of the particulates from the incoming air? and wash them into the bottom of the bucket/box?

Re: cooling your tent or van
Dang, I missed CoolerCon. My bucket cooler worked well, and allowed for comfortable sleep in our tent during any part of the day :) 1. The no-pump/wicking filters worked as long as I prefiltered the inlet air. Otherwise, they turned to a mud-bog quickly. 2. I ran off of my car battery, while recharg...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Wicking Cooler ... I use a siphon/gravity bottle to keep the water about an inch deep. It is a 32oz bottle, but I will use a 1 gal bottle. Instead of messing with fittings, I found some little brackets and I use them to hold down a 6" flexible hvac tube. I will cover the outside of the bucket/filter...

Re: cooling your tent or van
I purchased the fan you recommended, but the diameter appears to be about 4 1/2" ... larger than 4" tubes or ducts. Does your 4" lines block the outer part of the fan?
Hey Figjam Any advice on connecting the fan to the battery, I have never connected anything directly to a 12v battery before and I don't want to do something stupid and fry myself! I have two gator clips that I'm going to solder to the negative and positive wires of the fan. Do I j...

Thanks FIGJAM, this fan rocks! I am suprised at the amount of air it moves. I went with a pumpless design ... using wicking humidifier filters.
The bucket has to be outside to work and will cool up to 600 cubic feet of space with the 190 cfm fan. 8)
Sweet! I think it might work. I am going to do a test run this weekend. Clarification. If the bucket is inside, the fan would suck air through a tube from outside of the ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Got the fan! I am sure these are answered somewhere in the previous 53 pages, but ... questions:
1. What volume are you cooling with your bucket cooler? (my tent is 250 ft3)
2. Bucket in tent vs. Bucket out of tent? Is one more efficient or effective?

Re: cooling your tent or van
Another Question ... they have a bank of batteries and a solar panel. They are going to supply me with a 120v AC connection through an extension chord, so it is inverted. I would have to reconvert to DC. Isn't all of that innefficient? Should I get some wire and tap straight into the batteries 12volt?

Great, i like the lower amp requirement ... 1.25. I am sponging electricity from friends, and that helps.

Re: Evap Cooler: wicking fed in recent post?
This guy built one using the wicking filter , but no pump. He uses a gravity/siphon to regulate the water supply to the filter.

Excellent thread. I played around with this last year, but didn't use it ... we ended up taking an RV. I am doing a canvas tent and shade structure this year, and intend to do a solar powered swamp cooler. Someone earlier mentioned a no-water-pump design. This design relies on "wicking" filters made...
