Apparently there is some stuff going on in the world that I am just not a part of - or at least perhaps I wasn't paying attention that closely to when I read the Kama Sutra (of course my version was illustrated with stick figures - perhaps that was the problem.) As I mentioned in a previous posting ...

It's funny and it's cool. I have a hit counter on the blog site that allows me to see how many people have visited but also where they've linked from and roughly where they are. (roughly as in "California" or "New Zealand.") BUT what I find is funny is that every now and again I'll get a link from g...

I bring these two up because it's not just a "Republican" or "Right Wing" issue, per se. You're right about that Chai. In fact the traditional notions of the nanny state and thought crime come from the left (the novel 1984 was about a left wing government.) The right - or Republicans - "traditional...

The government is to me the provider of last resort when family and community have failed you. Unfortunately, many these days seem to look to government as the first line provider and they end up frustrated and disappointed. It is my opinion that more often than not, involving the government in you...

You didn't see anything? The top two pictures, under the banner, are on the playa. and if you search the page the words Burning Man appear at least 5 times, with several other pictures. There's also a reference to video - which appears to be a pay thing. Hmm. Is anyone upstairs paying attention to t...

I'd love to get a copy of it somewhere. I wrote a novella a few years ago that I gave out on the playa, though I couldn't afford to print many copies. I've posted about it before, but it's available, in blog form, here: http://burningnovel.blogspot.com/ if anyone is interested.

The Novella I wrote
Before the '03 Burn I wrote and gifted a novella set at Burning Man, during a fictional year. I've posted it to a Blogger site and it can be read there, or printed, loved or hated. A word of warning: it contains references to illegal drug use and public sex so it's not suitable for BM LLC's own Tale...

Ubu, I totally agree with everything you said. I've actually come to embrace most of the changes - especially since a lot of the changes have allowed the continuation of Burning Man itself - and have enjoyed every year on it's own terms. And it's true, the burn itself has come to mean less. What has...

You guys aren't getting it at all. I'm talking about the symbolism of what burning the man stands for - or at least what it's supposed to stand for. AND what it is evolving into. A gallery may be nice, but there are gallerys everywhere. Maybe I'm one of those burners who remember the hay bales too f...

Yeah
I know they close it off and stuff it with pyro (and extra wood last year) but I always assumed what was built with the man burned with the man. (including the smoke detector (according to the book "This is Burning Man.")) I mean, isn't that the point of the whole thing? What surprised me was that t...

They took away a lot of the Man
Late Friday night a campmate and I went for a walk out to the man. She hadn't been in the maze yet and wanted to see it before it got shut down for the pyro stuff. But when we got there it was already shut down and there were people hauling stuff out of the maze and loading trucks. I asked a Ranger ...

Day time experience
The layout of the camps made the event more of a day time experience for me. It was a lot nicer cruising around the city during the day this year. I met a TON of people doing that.

It was Sunday
It was Sunday and a lot of people were gone. The camp next to us had finally taken down the $2,000 geodesic dome they’d brought with them. They had melted down as a camp earlier in the week. Two of them came over to us on Wednesday, offering food they didn’t need because they were leaving. They were...

It's Thursday...
It's Thursday and I've been out in the sun too long. I'm having chills and stomach cramps and any little piece of sun that hits me feels like two thousand degrees. I’m drinking water like a fiend but it tastes like metal and slides down my throat like ice and stabs my gut like thumb tacks. My camp m...

The L-AF camp AKA the Lazy-Ass Fuckers is (are) (be) looking for some for folks. We are a camp made up of formers solos (soli) who have become the unlikeliest of friends and family, boys and girls, children of all ages - except no actual children in the sense that our youngest was 18 - though some o...

Solo Collective
Hey all, The SoloCo disolved last year into various camps. It just got too big and unwieldy I think - and too much work for Mel and Grover (though they did an amazingly fantastic job with it.) There are a few of us around, the L-AFers, The SCARAB camp, The Pyramid Scheme... That kind of thing. I'm a...

I have asthma and was terrified of the dust before I went, but basically I've been fine. I do wear a dust mask and tend to put it on when most around me aren't wearing one. Last year I bought one of these : http://www.allergycontrol.com:80/store/products_detail.asp?dept_id=55610&mscssid=MBL9JV4MRT2D...

Damn - that's what I get for getting entirely buried up to my eyeballs in a project right before heading to BRC. It sounds like we might have set up something great there this year - but what does everyone say we keep this going and set something up next year. I like the idea of a film festival on t...

The Dragon car - if you mean Draka - I think she died of old age. She was there last year, but I think she was on her last legs. Most art cars aren't exactly still under warranty. Though I do think it was a mellow year - at least it seemed that way for me. It was still great - but in a different way...
