Re: Let's nerd out about Blacklights
Would it not make way more sense to start a new thread? Your question has very little in common with the original (ancient) thread

Photo Exchange Megathread!????!?
Hello all; this year was a bit different for me as for the first time I was experiencing it more from a performance artist point of view than ever before. I spent a LOT of time spinning fire, light sabers, and other LED props, and running around with various weird lighting schemes messing with peopl...

Re: Slip Ring connectors for wheel lighting.
Is that for the full length? 15 ft The LiPo get expensive when you hit 5AH capacity. No, that's each wheel (~6ft string around the inside of the rim). I mean I have enough 18650s and holders laying around that I could do it, I'd just WAY rather have a 20AH SLA battery mounted somewhere to the trike...

Re: Slip Ring connectors for wheel lighting.
I've considered running battery packs on each wheel and I guess it could still come to that but each wheel's LEDs pull about 1A at 12v, so we're talking a non-trivial battery pack.

Re: Slip Ring connectors for wheel lighting.
Edit edit edit: And if you do want to machine a pair of isolated rings, here is a pretty neat little dual carbon brush holder from a generator: https://www.amazon.com/Carbon-Brush-Chinese-Generator-Engine/dp/B00D55YPHG Haha, good ideas and lots of edits. I actually already ordered a few of those br...

Re: 2017 One Item A Day For BM List......
Got a line on a ticket so....
Gonna be more than one item a day between now and the day methinks. This weekend I stripped like 20 layers of paint off my old trike trunk and test fit it on the new trike. Gonna work real nice.

Slip Ring connectors for wheel lighting.
This has the feel of an idea that will likely get scrapped as I can think of only a few ways to make it work and all of them are vulnerable to dust... but I'm hopeful that someone has done something similar. I have a trike with 4" wide rims and I want to put strip lights around the inside of the rim...

The canopy is sort of a major detail to leave until AFTER you've made the skeleton, but you're not the first. Here's how I did mine:

New Dome Instructable
Folks who've been around a while have probably seen most of this, but I wanted to share - I made an instructable about my 24 foot dome to help out the future dome builders. Comments welcome; There are a couple of things I'd still like to add to it but it should be helpful info for anyone considering...

First test assembly of Trike 2.0 (FatTrike 1.0) this weekend. Wheels went together relatively easily. Need to work out how to mount the gear hub now.

Re: 2016 One Item A Day For BM List....
That looks like great big fun. If you figure out how to do it without bodily injury, (or with burning hair, singed skin and flaming clothes), let us know where/when we can come watch. Hell yes it's fun! I've experienced just about all of the above unfortunately, but nothing serious :p. Hoping to be...

Re: What's the single best thing you've worn on the playa?
Couldn't pick a favorite I don't think, but a consistent favorite for the last 3 burns has been a long, heavy denim utility "kilt" [quotations for purists who get butthurt]. Also a set of 4" platform boots are a great playa clothing item. On the other hand it's hella fun to go run around wearing neo...

Re: Miniature Flame Poofer
The original poster was asking for a one-time (at least per performance) rig, and I believe flash paper/cotton/string is pretty hard to outdo in terms of weight and simplicity. Not to mention the lack of requirement for a pilot. I found some youtubes of people setting it off with glow plugs driven ...

No tailgaters for him! actually saw an ugly looking incident where some dolt fired his off into some girls face by accident Hopefully your friend isn't the idiot I saw scorch that girls face off, cuz that was kind of the epitome of a stupid fuck playing with a dangerous toy and hurting someone else.

Re: Miniature Flame Poofer
This year I ended up strapping a motorcycle exhaust to my bike and it looked pretty bad-ass. So much so that I had many compliments and people taking pictures of it. People would often ask, "Does it work?" Which I would reply, "Hell yes it does." It didn't do anything but hang there, but I didn't w...

Re: Miniature Flame Poofer
You're solving a problem that magicians have already solved. No need for mini gas tanks, igniters, pressurized anything. That's interesting you should say that; I was thinking of using flash paper for an unrelated puppet show gag - thanks for the video - I will have to look further. I'm thinking of...

Re: Playa Bike Locks (Is there a better solution?)
I'll go one step further...I ditched coiled locks entirely. I found them annoying and downright dangerous to use. As you tried to pull them through (and especially out of) your bike frame and/or wheel, they have a habit of recoiling back and and whacking you in the arm or even worse, the face. I us...

A hole with electrodes in it I assume... not a hole belonging to someone who was presently being electrocuted, right? It really could be either but the former seems most likely.Ratty wrote:electrocuted hole.

That would be a massive cool honeypot. Dangerously close to soda snorted out my nose. Thing is, at BM there's a better than normal chance that whoever got on would quite thoroughly enjoy getting cornholed with nigh a million volts. It'd be kind of like replacing the seat with a dildo every time you...

Re: Playa Bike Locks (Is there a better solution?)
Does your bike have a hand break? If so squeeze the break and put a pin in a pre-drilled hole to keep it in that position. They'll probably just think it seized up. Or put a padlock over the handgrip and the lever, locking it in the applied position. I like this idea; nice and simple. The only thin...

Re: Playa Bike Locks (Is there a better solution?)
Just put a padlock through one of the cut outs in the front sprocket, the forward half, so that you grab the sprocket and chain. Can't get more that half of a turn without the sprocket and chain departing thus binding. Spokes are too delicate (somewhat). That would WORK, and thank you for the sugge...
