Re: dry ice
Well, after all that experimenting about how to use the dry ice, we had a bit of a different experience. I'm sure it is typical so I'm happy to share it here. First, the two of us were driving from Minnesota and our departure was a bit disrupted for stupid reasons, and I was not thinking straight, s...

Re: dry ice
Ok, to redeem myself I have called the Raley's in Winnemucca. They do have dry ice, and will have extra on hand for the week before BM. It is $1.60 a pound. The very nice Raley's representative said they are the only place in Humboldt County that has dry ice, and he was more than happy for me to pos...

Re: dry ice
@jbelson I did find that enough CO2 gas was produced that it did pressurize the cooler, and a nice stream of cold gas escaped through the (closed) drain valve. I would agree that most (ok all!) of the coolers that I've been able to afford aren't air-tight enough that I need to worry about my cooler ...

Re: Using Freezer as Cooler?!
I would be tempted to put at least some of the dry ice on top of the food. When I did my dry ice experiment in my little cooler with the dry ice block in the bottom, I was surprised by the temperature difference between the dry ice at the bottom of the cooler (which would be -109°F) and the upper pa...

Re: dry ice
Annie and FIGJAM thank you so much, and you are welcome to join me and my companion for dinner anytime you can find us on the playa. We may have lobster on Wednesday if we can find some more dry ice between Salt Lake and Winnemucca, otherwise a dinner of canned soup is made absolutely delicious by s...

Re: dry ice
It figures these days that when you post something on a forum about a project near and dear to your heart, that is taking time and effort, that someone will come along to tell you that you are wasting your time. The word they often use is “just.” “You don’t have to fool with dry ice, you can just th...

Re: dry ice
I did call the Wal-Mart in Winnemucca, and was told they do not carry dry ice. So it may be hit or miss.MyDearFriend wrote: Wal-Mart has it too, now, right?

Re: dry ice
If the drain valve was closed, You were not feeling co2 leaking.. It was simple cold to warm air convection. I disagree that it is warm to cold convection. If one has water ice, that cools the air in the cooler, creating a small vacuum, which sucks warm air into the cooler. In that case any air I f...

Re: dry ice
Similarly, the small block of solid can produce enough CO2 to fill your car or tent, and at worst kill you dead, and at the other worst make you so sleepy that you have an accident. Don't store the cooler in your tent, ventilate your car. As this was an experiment, I'd be interested in how you asce...

Re: dry ice
[quote="Boomr"]I just started a little experiment with dry ice. Not that the advice in this thread isn't extremely valuable, well reasoned, wise and thoughtful, but it does tend to be all over the place. So, friends, we are going to do a little experiment together. This morning I bought a 44# block ...

Re: suspending shade mesh between two RVs?
I had (at one time) a plan to attach aluminet to my PVC pipe shade structure, throw it over my pop-top VW, and secure it with magnets to the other side, down low. However, If I bring the van back with all the paint scraped off, I'll be in trouble. Then I also thought that this might not be effective...

Thank you Trishntek and AntiM I forgot about the bikers! Yeah, maybe they like tattoos... I appreciate the advice, that helps a lot. I had a mind blank about using the internets to search for tattoo artists. Like somehow they were so gothically beyond technology that they don't advertise lol. This w...

Needles? Needles...piercing....flesh?? Ewwww. Yes, my dream is to go to Reno, get a hotel, have a shower, swim in the pool, eat pizza and get the odd tattoo. However Boog, my partner in crime, is nervous about making his flight back to Europe. Something about a job, whatever that is. I humbly thank ...

Tattoo artist advice needed
My playa partner and I are toying with getting tattoos (AFTER we leave BRC.) We are middle-aged rebel children, ready to commemorate our Rite of Passage with a small bit of body art, our first. Any recommendations on a good tattoo artist in the SLC area? Or perhaps Cheyenne or Sioux Falls. We'll be ...
