Re: Holding Down Shelter - Structural Engineer Needed Please
Not a structural engineer...however. We used the same type of structure last year, just a 30ft long wind and snow load rated portable garage. We used 1/2" X 16" lags sunk in by a 1/2" drive dewalt impact. It didn't budge. Does that mean yours won't, no...but what else are you going to do? I did try ...

Automating FigJam's Bucket cooler
Hey all, In 2019, I built the Figjam cooler and had good luck with it, but I wanted it to be a little more user friendly. I put an Arduino based controller that turns things on and off, presoaks the media before it starts the fan but it didn’t work very well. I didn’t put the time into it to make it...

Re: cooling your tent or van
That's a great point. I have two 12V batteries, so it's less of a concern for me. The nice thing is once things are cooled down, the arduino slows the fan down. It does speed up and slow down which is a little annoying, but I can program that out of it when/if I ever care to. If things go well, afte...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Hey, You all are working way too hard on this. File Servers use these fans. Specifically HP Tower and High performance rack mount servers use them. For example a HP servers uses the Delta TFC1212DE fan. That’s a 220CFM, 35.8mmH2O 12V fan. The local (real) computer people gave me 4 of them out of an ...

Get a us military ecws tent. Built like a brick shi* house and had two fully covering flys that don't let any light through. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l36/erasermax101/ecwt-C.jpg Put the white fly on the outside. Never used mine at BRC, but have used it in the canyonlands. Stays very cool an...

The MAX setting on your van is recirc, but don't plan on using it to keep yourself cool... Do put your van in max mode just before you shut it down to keep dust from coming in the vents. Build a shade structure over your van, and on the East side of it, and you can sleep till noon. BTW, If you ignor...

Our camp (60 peeps last year) used a system based on a double version of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttu8_vS2Uv4 The spinney thing didn't work at all for us, we used a loop of sprinkler system "Funny Pipe", a T fitting to make the loop and another piece coming up from below and tied it down...

Re: How to Start a Theme Camp
1. A theme camp is a Do-ocracy. There is no real Leader... Kind of... Somebody needs to make certain its safe, cohesive, and gets there, but there shouldn't be a real leader. You If you have a vision for the camp, sell it to everyone so they will want to build it. You can't tell people what to do at...

Re: A question about solar lights
A few of us got solar powered rope lights at home depot for our bikes. They were awesome. Relatively bright, and stayed on all night. Even when our bikes didn't get full sun all day. There is an off switch that turns the lights off, but they still charge. They aren't very expensive either. Make cert...

Re: Using Solar Panels
We extensively use solar in our theme camp. I was running 8 80Watt BP pannels, and Outback Charge Controller, 8 Golf Car Batteries from Sams Club, a Samlex AC battery charger and a GoPower 3KW inverter. We also had a generator for backup, and playing after dark. Think of it as a hybrid. The panels w...

Re: Do I need a baffle box?
Most of the noise comes out of the tailpipe. Get some properly sized flex exhaust tubing and clamps and a longer than your RV is high piece of metal pipe, and make a bracket to attach it to the side of your RV. Build a smokestack. Not only gets the sound pointed upwards where it will dissapate, but ...

Band looking for a stage
Hey, Papa Bear from Mountain Mayem here, one of our house bands is looking to pick up another gig or two around the playa this year. They are called Cosmic Accident. I'd love to see them play ontop of an art car. They are a 4 piece band (Drums, Bass, Keys and Guitar) with vocals of course. They rang...
