I put some electrical tape over the ports and buttons. The buttons still worked but it closed off the gaps.

Re: "Letters from your Past" does this work?

Funny, we are doing something similar, but instead of Letters from the Past, we think of it as Letters to the Future! We are taking a different approach, creating an art installation called "Devoted" where a participant can send an email to their future selves, after interacting with othe...

Thank you both. Ratty, I'm glad you got a chuckle out of it. Come visit us on playa! Eldergeekaz, the test that your link points evaluates the commerical anchors that Art Support Services can drive on playa. It would be great to know what a similar test would do with the lag bolts. Re: Lag screws vs everything else...

New Questions - Retention Force of Lag Bolts Has anyone put lag bolts into a design that was approved by Art Support Services (ASS)? I need to put some structural calcs together as part of my art installation design (it is over 8' tall) and need to plug in a number. I checked with Figgie and he had...

Hi Eddaytona! Thank you for the kind words. Yes, the burp at shutdown is a tradeoff - if it doesn't do the forced shutdown thing (that generates the error message) I cannot be CERTAIN that the GPS receiver is turned off. On the playa, it is really important to conserve battery life, since for so man...

HI All, Sometime in the past, I have seen a panorama that shows the mountains that surround Black Rock City, and gives their names and the general direction (ie, north, south) that they lie with respect to the man. I cannot find it, and would like to work up an art piece that incorporates the skylin...

Any feedback would be appreciated, especially with respect to readability in bright light with your device, and use of the compass for ba...

horse at night.JPG I was peripherally involved with a mobile pizza kitchen. The year was 2011, the year of the Trojan Horse. Yep, that and "Must Use Visa or MasterCard" even though the visa logo is lighting up. Exceeding maximum, cart says 2 tickets (one ticket and one vehicle pass). Tried two different cards so I can only conclude buggy code turned loose. woohoo!

Canned Peas
Canned Corn
Canned Pineapple
Canned Green Beans
Canned ...

There is a trend here. I find canned foods to be the most underrated value out there.
As they are all precooked you can eat them right out of the can. Don't forget a GOOD can opener.

I predict MOOP of epic proportions. While all that grass shit may break down where there is humidity and bugs, it is going to blow everywhere and stay forever. Like this theme- it blows and won't go away.

Found a cautionary tale in the archives of a camp that had a 30ft 4V half inch conduit dome that went for a ride in the wind - apparently a sail and no anchor is part of the story. Six different chord lengths, all under five feet in length- half inch conduit. Something like a hundred and fifty stick...

I agree the thread is strange! I didn't realize conformity was so highly valued. When I look under my house, there are 2x4, 2x6, 2x8 elements. I have to wonder if the only reason all the struts are made of the same diameter conduit is a) it is prettier, or b) because it is assumed all the loads on a...

half inch vs three quarter inch for 24 foot 3V 5/8 dome?

Hi - designing a dome for this year, and comparing notes on various web sites for construction guidelines. I would like to construct a 24 foot diameter 5/8 3V dome; I calculate that there would be ~385 lb of steel if constructed of 0.75 EMT, 252 lb if constructed of 0.50 EMT. For comparison, I calcu...
