Aveeno! It goes on especially NON greasy, which is (as you all know) ever so important with such small particles of dust constantly swirling about.

Coconut Juice or Water: In your grocery it is the big white coconut all wrapped in cling wrap, carved into a weird cylinder with a cone top. Maybee 1/2 football size. Carve offr the top cone with a sturdy knife then crack the round center to get to the juice. Coconut milk: The baseball size brown b...

$700?! What kinda car are you renting? If you don't need much space you can definitly get a car MUCH cheaper than that from a rental place. And you want to rent. What happens if you take the chance and take your car to save some money and then end up spending even more money than a rental would have...

My dear Grammie. Died on July 5. I was watching a glorious sunset at the very time she passed, and didn't realize until later when my mom called me to tell me the news. I know she was in that sunset, my mom said she died with a smile on her face. She used to bring us blueberry picking in the summer....

GO, GO, GO! I went alone one year. After three years of camping with friends. It was a last minute thing since I had just moved from Maine to CA and was both discombobulated from the move and low on money. As I was sitting in the door of my tent that first day there, watching people walk by, feeling...

A friend of mine went in 2002 with a broken collarbone. He ended up not really being able to walk long distances, and so stayed at camp most of the time. Since this is a possibility, it might be worth considering whether the bigger bummer would be to stay home entirely, or to be on the playa and fin...

For my first burn ('99), I was literally told about two months in advance what Burning Man even was by a friend in CA. I flew out from Maine with *no clue* even really what the event was. Since it was my friend's first year too, we both kinda went in not knowing anything. I think the thing that we w...

I don't know specifically about going to Black Rock Point, but you can definitely leave the event by the Gate, but you will have to pay $20. Just make sure you have your ticket stub with you, you'll need both that *and* the bracelet they give you to get in again.

I guess I'll bring them. I'm not worried about the wearing sandals part, I've brought tevas every year and been fine foot-wise. Everytime I've tried wearing shoes during the day I've broken down and put my sandals on cos of the heat. :)

Thanks for all the input.

Birkenstocks

This is a really silly question. I have birkenstocks, which I LOVE, and want to bring them to the playa, but don't want to ruin them. Don't know if the alkaline does anything negative to the leather...anyone else bring birks and have any problem keeping them in good condition? I don't want to have t...

You don't. :) You can maybe think "hrm, I think I'd like to camp around 6:45 and Jupiter" but that doesn't mean that when you get there that 6:45 and Jupiter will be open. Or that you'll like the vibe that you get coming from that particular spot. Personally, I've always come in knowing a general id...

Last year, my fourth time, I didn't know until I got picked up by my friend and his girlfriend that I would have no one to camp with (they wanted a girlfriend/boyfriend thing, which turned into an engagement week, which then turned into a wedding on Saturday, yay!). We arrived on playa at about 2am ...
