Re: law enforcement 2013
I was surprised last year to see license plates placed on bicycles mounted to trunk racks with special white LED lights pointed at them. I've never seen anybody go to such extremes anywhere else. Navigating the law enforcement gauntlet into Burning Man is a situation like nowhere else in this count...

Costco Soulmate Trading Outlet will be at Rod's Road @8.
Stop by for some Morning Train, stay to yell obscenities about the Morning Train, say a little longer to quietly ask "Can I have some more?"

Its a shame that Costco interviewers and staff sexually harass people. If there's any shred of evidence you have, please contact me with it immediately. If you have names to use, please PM me. I'm pretty sure you're just being a troll, but I want to be clear that regardless of any interactions we'v...

Costco employee duties include; Insulting Costco patrons, matching them with people that are 180 degrees off from what they are looking for (total random matching like the Blind Date TV show) to ensure plenty of wasted time and energy and being belligerent. Participating with Costco is as fun as a ...

Re: Serial Rapist on the playa
I think too much blame is being thrown around here. First, blame has been directed at the victim and her friends/relatives for not going to Reno for evidence collecting. Second, blame has been directed at Emergency Services and BMORG Blame has also been directed at local law enforcement and even th...

My six foot hexayurt was awesome, too. FSK tape (second year) held on fine. Used a rope halo, no tape anchors, no problem. Actually, the rope halo only had five stakes, because I couldn't find a good spot for the one in the front, and then some windy times later I decided I didn't need it. Still wor...

Re: Theme Camp Applications
Stumbled across this old thread, and if anyone cares about the update: we had at least 8 campers with no tickets who steadfastly refused to believe they wouldn't be going. One by one they all got tickets (of course). I'm pretty stoked that they were bold and brave enough to take the time off work, i...

Re: Ethical tickets: what is a fair markup for re-sale ticke
if someone pocketed $1000+ on the sale of a ticket... and then you found out that they raffled it and over 200 people paid $5 each for a chance at a ticket.. is that scalping ? is it ethical? No, that's not scalping. It may or may not be ethical, it doesn't directly violate any of the ten principle...

Re: Ethical tickets: what is a fair markup for re-sale ticke
Do the math, Trilo. If the person paid $420 for the ticket, and she gets $500, minus 10% in service fees = $450. A whopping $30 in "profit". Hardly scalping, in my humble opinion. I'd say that charging $40 extra is absolutely scalping. $40 is hardly worth breaking a principle, but that's a differen...

Re: Ethical tickets: what is a fair markup for re-sale ticke
Anybody selling over face value plus perhaps the cost of shipping and fees is scalping. Ebay and stubhub charge 9-10% in service fees, your choice on whether you'd want to do business with a seller there. Burners can list their tickets here with no fees, and most likely find other outlets to list t...

Having a container or length of time on the playa were not factors in whether a camp would receive ticket allocations. <snip> It's also possible that the application itself didn't do an effective job of communicating what the camp does or offers that may meet the criteria the placement team was loo...

Frankly, some theme camps are THAT important. They make BM what it is. I respect your opinion, but don't agree with it at all. They make BM what it was last year . It was BM before that camp was there, it will be BM after that camp is gone. Without the bigger installations, BM is just 50,000 people...

Re: Why Are So Few Tickets Being Scalped
Because the longer they sit on the tickets, the more desperate the Burners will be, thus the higher prices they can command. It's simple. If people are willing to fork out over $1k now, they're betting on closer to $2k in June. Scalpers don't work together. Just how buyers can't help themselves fro...

My non-burner friends sometimes ask me about TTITD. They think it's full of hippies, or anarchists, or drug crazed engineers. Of course, they are all right and all wrong.
