Re: Is theft common?

While some thefts do happen, I'm not sure it's any worse than any other city. Most thefts are opportunistic so if you keep valuables out of sight and or locked up, you should be fine. Bikes are probably the number one thing that gets misplaced or stolen and I'm betting generators and cell phones are...

Re: Re-bar or Lag Screws for a Monkee Hut ?

I've seen some threads about people using lags for monkey huts but I couldn't see how that would work so I figured I misread it. You want at least 1.5 feet below ground for stability and 1.5 feet above ground for the PVC to slide over so even an 18 inch lag wouldn't even be close enough to work. You...

The main sale will be a lot like ComicCon tickets. They'll sell out very quickly. If you don't score tix in the main sale, there are other ways to get them. Tickets will come available the closer we get to the event you just gotta watch for them. Just like ComicCon, there will be scalpers and scamme...

Re: The person below me

Yes, yes I am. While it's not an officially sanctioned BM event, it is very burner like. I am actually taking my wife, who has never camped before or been to any kind of event like this. I want her first experience to go well so maybe I can get her to go to BM with me at some point in the future. TP...

Re: Set Alight

I bring a mix of stuff, some MRE's, some canned stuff, and some fresh stuff. When I get hungry, I just dig through my food bin or cooler for something that looks good at the time. I like to cook up fresh food on my camp stove but sometimes there isn't time for that. Sometimes you'll only have time t...

Re: Best thing you ever saw

Was out in deep Playa late one night and ran across a small dive bar that had a few tables and full bottle service. The bartender was in a tux and the waitresses were equally dressed very classy. We had a group of 4 and waited to be seated. When it was our turn, the hostess split us up to 4 separate...

Re: Nevada legalizes recreational marijuana

We've had rec here in California for just about a month and it's still too early to tell if there are any problems. Was kind of weird to just walk into a store and buy weed off the shelf from a menu like at McDonalds. The prices are a little higher than my regular "guy" but the quality is ...

Re: Totally New, Curious About Camps

You do not actually "have" to join a camp either. You can just show up, find a spot, and set up your stuff. You'll have neighbors that you can get to know and you wont have any camp responsibilities to worry about. Going solo your first time is probably the best way to do it IMHO. There is...

Re: PVC adjustable fittings for custom angles?

Those are cool. I have no experience with them but my first thought would be that you will have to glue the PVC into those things to make them secure enough which would make teardown at the end of the week more difficult. You'd have to cut it apart which would make them a 1 use deal.

Re: Emergency food

I bring some fresh food as well as some camping or survival food. Sometimes I don't feel like cooking or just don't have time to prepare something so a quick Mountain House or MRE is just the ticket. Any fresh food that won't make it a week in the cooler gets eaten early in the week and I always bri...

Re: Driving from VA

It's certainly doable. I love road trips myself, my wife, not so much. Maybe it would be more fun for her if you set aside a few extra days to explore the country a little more on the way. You could make little detours to see things like the worlds largest ball of string and stuff like that. Another...

My PVC poles have been bent for the last 4 years with no problems. As long as they're not brittle, (1 year wont make them brittle) they'll be fine.

I have a hard time with it too. This year has been especially bad for me and I don't know why. I didn't have a very good burn this year so maybe that's why. Time is the only thing that will help so don't make any life decisions for a few months. Don't quit your job, don't breakup with your wife, don...

About 5 of us were sitting around the burn barrel Thursday night around midnight when 2 randoms came up and asked if they could sit down next to the fire for a bit. It's not too uncommon for that to happen so we said sure, sit down and tell us about your burn. My spidey sense started tingling so I w...
