Re: I'm a Burner virgin.

Welcome Liz! Read the survival guide here and even though it's the 2019 version, it contains lots of valuable information. Then read the 2020 version when it comes out. If you have never been camping before, you should do a couple short practice runs before coming out for a week on the Playa. The co...

I'm sorry to see you go Eric. You have been the Face of ePlaya for a long time and done a very good job of keeping the crazies in line.

I hope you do well in the next chapter.

Moto camping is also fun out there. There are Indian Petroglyphs on the hillsides all around as well as abandoned mines and hot springs. Wild Mustangs are out there too. https://i.imgur.com/QUmwyUe.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2KZW0Ag.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EEcpWUA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zs4IkNG.jpg

Yeah, because we all know how unsafe it is to have dust on your license plate. If your bike is blocking your plate, that's just an accident waiting to happen.

I will be camping with envy this year as well. I'll be streaming the video to my iPad while I relax in my pool with a cold beer. You're welcome to join us this year Chowski but be warned, we eat bacon in this camp.

Re: DMR repeater at the event 2019

I guess what I was asking was is it possible to link in to an analog repeater so that us old skool guys with analog equipment could use it.

I agree on keeping the default world out of it. I quite enjoy being off the grid.

Re: DMR repeater at the event 2019

I don't know much about DMR as I'm an old school analog HF guy but it sounds like something fun to experiment with. Would you be able to backhaul to an analog repeater or could you assign a talk group to analog operations?

I thought as much...but thank you, folks. I will pick up an inline fuse for the cooler. What amperage would you recommend?
For just the pump, go with a fuse a little bigger than the max current rating on the pump. If your pump is rated at 1.9 amps, I'd go with about a 3 amp fuse.

RE: Grounding. As I understand it, the water table is around 15' below the surface of the Playa. If you can get a ground rod down that far, you'd have a very efficient antenna system.

Re: Dumb question about connecting those teeny swamp cooler pump wires to a giant battery

The pump wires are tiny because the pump does not draw that much current. You could hook that pump up to a million amp battery and it will only draw the current it needs.

Re: DMR repeater at the event 2019

Sounds like a cool idea. I've always wanted to setup my mobile rig for cross band repeat and link in to one of the 2 meter repeaters you can hit out there but I always end up chasing shiny things and never get around to it. There isn't as much traffic as you'd think but I have talked to several peop...

Re: Is there a plan or group to help reduce Moop on the highways and cities post-burn?

I think the vast majority of the people responsible for all the trash everywhere do not have any idea they're causing problems. They are not reading the JRS, have never been to the BM website, and are generally unaware of any of the culture associated with BM. They've only seen a couple pics on inst...

No. No e-mails, no confirmation, and even though they said the packages would be signature required, they're not. They are just dropping them in your mailbox or doorstep. Once the porch pirates get wind of this, tickets are going to start disappearing.

Re: condition of lag screws after removing them from PLaya??

We've been using the same lags for years and years. We do not do anything to them at all, just throw them in the bucket and stash them in our container. Pull em out next year and use em again. They have a little corrosion on the surface but it doesn't affect them in any way.

Re: Water Storage/ Shower Situation

Evap ponds can work very well if managed right. Our camp has been using one for many years with no problems. You have to make sure your campers and neighbors don't put anything but shower water in it. You have to sweep the water around every now and then so it doesn't puddle up too much and make sur...

I saw 2 guys putting something like that into the Playa a couple years ago. They were using a T bar made out of 2" square stock to drive it in. The "handles" were about 3' long and they were just walking a circle around the anchor. I don't know what they were securing but I imagine it could have pro...

Re: DMR repeater on the playa

Sounds like a fun thing to play with out there. I have brought some of my shack out there before and found that I just didn't use it that much. GMRS radios work well for camp communications and can also be used to summon rangers or medical. There is also a 2 meter and a 70cm repeater in range of the...

Re: There's nothing wrong with basing cleanup deposits on exodus cleanup results

I think the main point of a strike deposit is to create incentive to stay and help strike the camp. If you do that, then you get your deposit back regardless of your moop score. Money just happens to be the best and easiest thing to use to create that incentive. You could use other tangible things t...
