Kodiak Springbar canvas is the way. It seals up completely so the dust can't get in and coat everything and you can stand up inside it.

Re: Charmed to make your acquaintance ❤️
Welcome to ePlaya! Aside from joining a camp, or not, if you don't have any experience camping, I'd suggest a couple weekend practice camping trips before you head out to the Playa for a week. The Playa is pretty harsh and it helps to know how to make yourself comfortable in the outdoors. Learn how ...

Re: 2020 One thing a day for Burning Man
Where do you like to stay in Reno? I've done the Sands Regency the past couple of years. I like the 24-hour Mel's on site, and their parking is decent and free. Looking for opinions about other places though. I normally stay at the Sands as well but this year, I'm trying out the Western Village & I...

I don't know how much camping experience you have but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to go camping for a weekend or two. If you've never camped before, these practice trips will help a lot. If you have camped before, this will be a good shakedown for your gear. Aside from all the other stuff Bur...

We don't understand what this means. Bleach is a liquid that can disinfect water. Bring a little container of it with you. Renting bleach is not a thing. The second sentence makes no sense at all.myrtlerankind wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 5:41 amIs it possible to rent a bleach there? Or I should care mine one?

Welcome Liz! Read the survival guide here and even though it's the 2019 version, it contains lots of valuable information. Then read the 2020 version when it comes out. If you have never been camping before, you should do a couple short practice runs before coming out for a week on the Playa. The co...

Moto camping is also fun out there. There are Indian Petroglyphs on the hillsides all around as well as abandoned mines and hot springs. Wild Mustangs are out there too. https://i.imgur.com/QUmwyUe.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2KZW0Ag.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EEcpWUA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zs4IkNG.jpg

Yeah, because we all know how unsafe it is to have dust on your license plate. If your bike is blocking your plate, that's just an accident waiting to happen.

I guess what I was asking was is it possible to link in to an analog repeater so that us old skool guys with analog equipment could use it.
I agree on keeping the default world out of it. I quite enjoy being off the grid.

I don't know much about DMR as I'm an old school analog HF guy but it sounds like something fun to experiment with. Would you be able to backhaul to an analog repeater or could you assign a talk group to analog operations?

Re: Dumb question about connecting those teeny swamp cooler pump wires to a giant battery
For just the pump, go with a fuse a little bigger than the max current rating on the pump. If your pump is rated at 1.9 amps, I'd go with about a 3 amp fuse.wizzzzzzard wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:47 amI thought as much...but thank you, folks. I will pick up an inline fuse for the cooler. RE: Grounding. As I understand it, the water table is around 15' below the surface of the Playa. If you can get a ground rod down that far, you'd have a very efficient antenna system.

Re: Dumb question about connecting those teeny swamp cooler pump wires to a giant battery
The pump wires are tiny because the pump does not draw that much current. You could hook that pump up to a million amp battery and it will only draw the current it needs.
