Maybe we should also have a "Pimp Yr Cooler" session.

Re: cooling your tent or van

plan to build one of these for my 6' stretch yurt this year. Will the 5-gallon cooler cool that space well enough? I had an idea about your portable cooler... (which I am REALLY looking forward to trying, your suits last year were very effective!) The water might start sloshing around a bit while b...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Last year I had what I thought was a really well thought out bucket cooler, using a submersible pump and the blue pads. It cooled very well for the first three hours, then the dust started to clog the pads and it lost a lot of efficiency. After day two it was useless and I had to dump the murky wat...

Re: cooling your tent or van

My portable swamp cooler is progressing. I've got the cooler pad installed now, with chicken wire on the front to keep it inside and to avoid leaking: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/sjsc2/cooler-front.jpg I've hollowed out about half an inch of the insulation that's between the interior an...

What will be this year's signature tracks?

I know in past years tracks like "Goldust" and "Cracks" were big go-tos. What will be the bangers this year for our pre-burn playlists?

Re: cooling your tent or van

sjs, have thought about stacking your fans for the pressure and just using a Y fitting on top of the bucket? Or a single powerful fan with the Y? It would make the interior design easier. :? Yes, I agree that it would make the interior design easier, and if I were doing a bucket cooler again this y...

Re: cooling your tent or van

- I have a very old computer I am throwing away, and thought of using the fan. Should this be sufficient, or one needs to go for newer fans which have high flow capacity? - This all brings a general question - how sensitive is the design to pump capacity, and fan capacity? I would say that the desi...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Hi guys, a couple of questions: - I understand the solar pump http://www.harborfreight.com/solar-powe ... 66093.html was used in a number of contraptions. Is it used with its own solar panel, or connected to the 12V battery? It does not have specs, and I suspect if I try the solar panel but have ba...

Re: cooling your tent or van

This year I've decided to try to make the swamp cooler more portable. My bucket cooler worked like a dream last year, but I want to be able to wheel it out on the playa and cool people off in my cooled jumpsuits. To achieve this, I'm starting with the "Coleman Xtreme 50-Quart Wheeled Cooler." It's X...

Re: cooling your tent or van

I went for the Scythe DFS123812H-3000 ULTRA KAZE 120mm Case Fan and the Harbor Freight Solar Powered Fountain Pump, both have been mentioned tons of times on here so I figured they were the best options for a basic one. I have a small tent so I think one fan might be enough but after I build it if ...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Hey swamp cooler people, would there be any interest in getting together on-playa to compare coolers and whatnot? I tried to do this last year, but it was very last-minute so turnout was limited. I could get on it ahead of time this year and actually get it in the What Where When guide so people kno...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Hey all, I'm about 6mo behind on posting an update about how my Figjam-inspired cooler worked last year. My design consisted of two of the Scythe fans mounted in parallel on top of the 5-gallon bucket lid. They fed into PVC tubing: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/sjsc2/th_IMG_20110822_22452...

Thanks Figjam and everyone else here. There's nothing obvious to me. Re: cooling your tent or van

So, I got everything built for the bucket cooler. I tested the fan and tested the pump. I was feeling pretty good about it so I spliced and soldered the fan to the pump and gave it a shot. Pump is going strong, but the fan isn't moving. I took it apart and tested the fan again on its own. Seems lik...
