Re: Looking Ahead: Burning Man Project 2013
Hmm.. people prefer an oligarchy to a democracy. Lesson Learned! No, it is just that the democracy you set forth would be suited to handle, say, 100 members - like a neighborhood organization. Your plan is way too unwieldy for 60,000+ members and an infrastructure that needs to be in motion by Janu...

Re: YOUR THEME CAMP ISN'T THAT IMPORTANT .. and other though
Get ready to get angrier. I’ll say it again: YOUR THEME CAMP ISN'T THAT IMPORTANT. MY THEME CAMP ISN'T THAT IMPORTANT either. Note the ‘ THAT ’ .. a subtle way of pointing out the entitlement that some camps feel they deserve. Before this week’s news was announced, I was looking forward to seeing s...

Re: Another option: Limit vehicles not people
You're close...but you haven't articulated it well/gotten to the real mechanism to do it. To accomplish this...you split your fees. Like most other places...there's a per person ticket price/cost, and then there's your "camping pass/parking pass." Done and done. You can fiddle with the prices and p...

Re: Another option: Limit vehicles not people
The LLC has to be able to account for the number of people in BRC at all times, and be able to give those numbers to the BLM to make sure we're staying within the limits. Having excess population can lead to problems with the permit, and the "vehicle" method has no way to account for this. The "hea...

Re: Another option: Limit vehicles not people
It seems to me that the number of vehicles is a bigger issue than the number of actual people. Therefore, what about this as another solution to the ticketing dilemma: . . . [*]With this system, there could then be limits placed on each category of tickets, perhaps something like: 30,000 person-onl...

BTW, while prepaid credit cards are available, I have to say I am surprised that the vast bulk of people don't have a friend/loved one who has a credit card and whom they trust enough to make the ticket purchase for them on their card. Re: One aspect I like about the new process.....
E-tickets would require scanners working at the gate. Since the dust is absolute hell on electronics, I don't see a switch to e-tickets anytime soon. Actually, the gate folks already have computers and scanners at the gate. They used them to scan the bar code on my early entry pass this year. Howev...

Re: Fears for tiers
I didn't infer that from the info.. it would seem to be counter to the goal of having people the highest bracket they can afford, in order to leave lower priced tickets for others. If someone is willing to buy at the $320 price point, under your model, they would possibly get tickets at the $240 pr...

Re: if you have a Lottery, Why have tiers?
Those bottom tiers haven't gone to the "lower-incomed" in years- they go to people who can get the time off work to sit at their computer and try for them. It's been total luck-of-the-draw, and if you remember last years opening day fiasco it was more unlucky than lucky. The last time I even tried ...

Re: if you have a Lottery, Why have tiers?
I agree, just average out the price to $325 or maybe even a little higher and throw the extra $ to low income/scholarship program. As we all know, the price of the ticket is just a fraction of the cost of attending. If anyone is arguing to keep the tier system because because some folks will altrui...

I'm already inside the gate for 2 weeks building so you have something to go to. Hmm... :? -Badger Didn't you still need a ticket to get in, though? Calm down, JS. It is just a discussion - don't take it personally. Let people vent a bit. Then you can tell everyone "I told you so" later. People are concerned, and your repeated posts of assurance are not going to stop this discussion until we hear more from BMORG.

Man, I'm surprised BMORG announced this on a Friday prior to announcing the new population allowance for next year. If we get a permit for 80,000, there is not much concern. However, that they did gives me great concern. I don't like the lottery idea. As it is explained in JRS, I don't see how the l...

Of course they can tell it's me. I don't even try and hide it. I use the same name, ship to address, CC#, everything. I think they leave that loophole open for the simple reason that they know you will buy more things from them with the Prime subscription/trial. If they wanted to close the loophole...

True, problem is that we all fly in from FL. It would have to be a local company. Sacramento might be the only other city that could be an option I think though. Maybe San Fran, but I'm betting that they would pay extra for the closer convenience... Yeah, I'm just saying that you could get an idea ...

Re: 2012 Reno RV rentals
I would caution you to reconsider "the smallest possible RV" . . . The smallest possible models may not be worth the money. I say this because the smallest models I've seen have a fold-out couch/futon for your bed and are so small, that it is uncomfortable to have two people moving around in there. ...

But also, don't think of the camping gear as a one time buy, like liquor, the gear is an investment. . Yes. Re: Possible shade structure???
After second look, I'm not sure you could safely guy that thing down. It looks too light and flimsy for the playa.
You'd have to have all of the screens rolled up every time you left camp. Otherwise, they would just act as sails when the wind showed up.

Saw this for sale on Cabela's. Too flimsy for the winds? That thing might have survived this year (the calmest I've seen). Any other year, I would be surprised if it held up to the couple of big dust storms that typically blow through. You could probably find a way to guy it down securely, but it w...
