Re: Monkey hut and Rebar questions
As a binding material, the bicycle tube has several strengths, it lays flat on the PVC pipe allowing a full grip of the material face, you can stretch it and put the binding under good compression, it is inherently non-slip on the PVC and itself, and it's free. Concerning the questions: 1. When bind...

Re: 55 Gallon Water Barrels & Plastic Taste
Have you checked with local soft drink canning companies? I bought (3) 17.5 gallon food grade barrels for a few dollars each that was originally used to transport soft drink syrup. I rinsed them repeatedly, but there was still the unmistakable smell of Dr. Pepper in the plastic. The good news was th...

Nice tip on the pressure cooker/canning, SE. I really ought to educate myself more. Just be real careful when you google recipes for that thing. Good point on this subject and thanks for bringing it up. Not all recipes heed the following warning. It is highly recommended that NO foods or soups cont...

Our camp has a communal meal each evening with 4-6 people handling one evening's meal. I volunteered to make gumbo and our Wednesday night group went for it. I did not want to make it totally on the playa as it can take up to 4 hours of babysitting and I had better things to do with my time out ther...

As a follow-up to the Dr.Pepper water barrel system I used this year, it was flawless. I cut and notched some 2x4s to use to elevate the barrel off of the playa surface and they seemed to work good to keep the water from absorbing any heat from underneath. The water had no Dr. Pepper smell or taste ...

Due to a size restriction that I had for transporting the pipes to the playa, I had to cut the 10' long 1" pipes in half to (2) 5' lengths. For each of the three ribs I coupled (4) 5' pieces together with (3) 2' long 1-1/4" pipes and (3) additional 3" long 1" pipe spacers to make the arches larger e...

FOUND: Headlamp at Black Rock Bijou
I found a headlamp at the midnight showing of Shane down near the front of the theater at the Black Rock Bijou on Thursday evening. I dropped it off at the Lost and Found at PLAYA INFO the next day. If this sounds like yours, contact them. If it doesn't, don't.

I found a company in Washington state that carries some amazing battery powered light products. Re: Monkey hut and Rebar questions
Do you use one tube of each connection or can you split ithe tube in two? I cut each inner tube in half after cutting out the valve section giving me 2 pieces about 38" long. I then slit each piece lengthwise so that I wound up with essentially 2 long straps of rubber. SE so you get 4 pieces out of...

Re: Monkey hut and Rebar questions
I know that you addressed this question to McGlenver, but I just faced this same question. There are two ways to do this. One is to add on another piece of the PVC to the top spine to lengthen it. Another approach is to set the front and back arches a little closer than 5' from the center one, maybe...

I just got bungee balls for my MH through Home Despot. There are no shipping charges for on-line orders if you have them drop-shipped to your local store. Re: Securing 3 4x8ft 80+lb panels on the playa
Positioning the panels in a Southwest/Northeast orientation will align them parallel with the prevailing winds and reduce the occasion of tangential winds which put the most load on them. Of course, the winds blow in all directions out there, but the SW/NE winds are prevailing.

I figured that one week was long enough for that post to stew. By the way, if you know any burners in ATL that I might be able to talk with, can you hook a brother up? I really want to get this important issue put to rest as soon as possible.

Re: Yurt sealed and Dust free
I'm with BVB on this. I would reconsider the Persian rug though. Get carpet remnants, piece some together if necessary, and cut it so that it will be able to run up the interior walls about 1' on each side, like a bathtub bottom on a tent. This will help reduce, but not totally eliminate dust blowin...

How much pressure did you have to put on the barrel and what did you use to get water flow? I can see what looks like a fitting on the lid and the sides look like they are bowed out.FIGJAM wrote:![]()

When I got home with the barrels, I rinsed them out thoroughly then filled them with water and a cup of chlorine bleach and let them soak. The next day I emptied them and let them drain in my garage. Using the median amount of 2 gallons of water per day on the playa, I figure around 14 gallons would do for me. I have looked into getting (2) 7-gallon Aquatainers, but at $18 - $20 a piece, I blanched. I found a great alternative. The local Coca-Cola Cannery sells empty 13.7 gallon heavy plastic fo...
