Re: Bad Behaviour on the Playa
One of the rangers came over to chat & said Joe took an "N-Bomb". He said it was being advertised as "like acid", the reality being a 24 to 48 hour high with "intense highs & lows". N-Bombed means given 25I-NBOMe, when being told that you've been given LSD. It's really nasty stuff that can kill you...

Re: Plug n plays running amuk
Here's what bothers me about the plug and play camps: They're selling something that isn't theirs to sell. If it wasn't for the volunteers who build/run/strike the city, and the volunteers who come out there to build art, there would be nothing for these camps to sell. Think about some of the huge a...

2014 increase in foreigners?
Did anybody notice a LOT more people come to Burning Man from other countries this year? Does anybody know why that could be? Burner Express maybe?

Sorry Papa Bear. Having ambassadors walk around and ask people about the noise is a really good idea for next year. I like that idea a lot.

Re: '14 cheers and jeers
Again, sorry if it was too loud. I am almost positive that if anybody had come by and said something, we would have turned it down. Everybody in the camp is *extremely* reasonable, and has the #1 goal of making everybody's burn be the best burn ever. "I'm gun make mah thing SO LOUD" is not really on...

Jeers to Calliope. Their dance art car wouldn't do that car part until Wednesday, so they just decided to make it an in city club....at 4:00 and A. It's Kalliope. That's my camp. What were we doing that was making you sad? Did you come over and talk to anybody about it? I'm sorry if something was b...

Re: Are we kidding about the wait at the airport?
The passenger manifest station is almost *definitely* so that people don't end up stranded at the airport with no tickets. You can't fly somebody there, drop them off, and have them not have a realistic way of getting back to anywhere.

Bah, if anything that was a confused, overzealous temple guardian.
That's not what temple guardians are supposed to do, but the person might have been really new/confused about their role.

I know that, personally, when I'm wading through a white out dust storm to watch a 130 foot tall wooden man explode out in the desert, I demand QUIET! QUIET DAMN YOU!!!! QUIIIEETTTT!!!1111 Sheesh, people. If the art cars at the man burn are seriously annoying you this much, go watch it from the espl...

Re: Temple Burn -- one hour of silence and reverence possibl
People get whiney about being quiet at the temple burn because they're new, and because yelling at somebody for doing something *wrong* makes them feel superior. It's just basic human insecurity. Ignore them. UNLESS you're that person who got up and did a stupid speech at the 3:00 side right after t...

I'm interested to see how that vortex tube works out for you. They're not really meant for cooling large areas, they're more meant for cooling machine tooling (like a mill) in situations where a liquid coolant would be inappropriate.

Re: Has anyone bought To Flame bus tickets?
One of *the* reasons that Burning Man has survived for as long as it has, is that it filters for people willing to haul their things out to the desert, wait in line for 6 hours, forget something at home, and deal with it.

Trilo: Actually they're claiming that they *have* been issued a BLM permit. Edit 2: Update from BLM as of 7/22 6:33pm ET: We have been issued BLM permits!! BRC, LLC will be informed of BLM's decision today and we'll keep you updated on their response. http://www.reddit.com/r/BurningMan/comments/1itw...

Can't the LLC eject somebody from the event at their own will? I mean...what happens when "To Flame" gets to gayte and they just say no?

Re: Has anyone bought To Flame bus tickets?
It sounds like they're trying to force BM to let them into the city by getting a permit from the BLM.
It also sounds like it's going to be a total nightmare for anybody on any of their busses.

Re: (4) 10x10 or (1) 20x20 Tarp?
Trilo, are those "hurrican stakes" just angle iron? (I can't tell from the photo). Yeah, angle iron is better than rebar, and ground screws (these: http://www.w8ji.com/images/towers/Guys/screwandbust.jpg) are even better. But I think grounds screws are probably overkill for anything other than the H...

Re: (4) 10x10 or (1) 20x20 Tarp?
I suppose I should explain the right way of doing it instead of just being a dick. Pound 18" (I actually use two feet, but that's overkill) of rebar into the ground at a 45 degree angle such that any force imparted upon it will be applied perpendicular to the rebar. It shouldn't be trying to pull th...

Re: (4) 10x10 or (1) 20x20 Tarp?
pressure = force/area One good dust storm will rip your rebar out of the ground if too much force is working against it. Personally, I would go with the 10x10s just for the peace of mind. This is wrong. Maybe if you're using 6" of rebar pounded into the ground wrong, but if you have any idea what y...

Thanks, Figjam. I guess I'll go with tarps, then. (Although I'll probably buy some of this stuff as a test, because I'm an asshole that doesn't trust anything that anybody tells me...and I live somewhat kindof nearish to Yuma.)

"Economy black mesh shade tarp"?
Has anybody used this stuff before? It seems really cheap... http://www.ysbw.com/Economy-Black-Mesh-Shade-Tarps-s/98.htm (This website also has silver on silver tarps for the same price, but the shade cloth seems like it would do well in the wind) Also: does anybody know what DPW shade crew uses? I'...

Re: Geodesic Dome
If I can add: it's really tempting to use a parachute. DO NOT USE A PARACHUTE! They are the exact opposite of what you want on the playa. They allow lots of light (meaning heat) through, and catch ALL of the wind (that's what they're designed for...catching air). They're cheap, and I have one too......

People are dancing around this. Yes, I see no reason that you can't use different widths of struts. Also, my 2V 8' held up just fine at the last burn, and has been to a couple of regionals with some pretty high winds too. Give yourself a LOT more time than you think (like...give yourself a full mont...

Re: Mesh on my tent
OP! You really *really* need to make a shade structure of some kind to put that tent underneath of.
If you don't, it's going to be unbearably hot in there as soon as the sun comes up.
Unless you're keeping a farmer's schedule while at BRC, this will be a thing you hate.

Does all art in deep playa need to be "placed"?
For instance, if I am willing to just haul my stuff out there by hand (no early entry, meaning I can't drive my truck out there), is it okay to just place stuff wherever I want?
